Especially with the state Montreal is in right now, the leafs take the 4 first rounders. Weber who is declining heavily and often injured, Price seems like he has declined as well and getting paid 10.5 until he's 38, Marner is a steep price for any winger at any age. over 30 million tied up in those 3 players, which limits you from being a contender until the cap goes up significantly. As a leafs fan, I can admit I have said this all throughout the season. Marner is a great player but he is also a product of his surroundings. He isn't substantially better, more creative or a better passer than 2 years ago. He plays with one of the best goal scorers in the game and puts up 94. If he had domi as his C I would say he averages 75-80 for the duration of his contract. Unreal numbers for a winger, but not number that are worth $12million/year.
On a side note, i would personally not want this at all as a Montreal fan. 4 first round picks from a team who hasn't made it out of the first round in 5 years and has not improved significantly are so valuable. Caufield, Kotkaniemi and Domi look like a good starting point for a rebuild. Move the bad contracts, let young guys develop, draft well, and then push for a cup.
