Please do it Lou....Isle still don't have a solid goalie and to think Varlamov will be able to Replicate what Lehner did, then Isle fans are even dumber then they look. Nick Leddy aint worth those picks and Melnyk is the cheapest owner in the league so that deal wouldn’t happen. Leafs happily take 4 1st round lottery picks and solidify their future, have fun on the island Mitch

so when you OS Marner at 12.5;
Barzal is gonna take 8.5?
Pulock is taking just $5.5?
Boychuck is gonna waive for Ottawa?

so to adchieve this you need to trade Leddy/Boychuck (or Bailey) for pennies on the $ as everyone knows your in a cap crunch
Barzal and Pulock both need to take home town discounts
trade 4 1st rd picks
....... and have Marner sign the deal.........and the leafs not match

easy peasy

People around these parts seem to forget that every big deal made sets both a tone and precedent for future and similar players. So, not only does this potentially hurt other teams around the league, but it hurts the Isles themselves. A 4 year offer sheet clocked in at $12.5 million is legitimate insanity. Then, on top of that, you are hoping that your own upcoming RFAs don't take note of what their own team just did and ask them for hometown discounts of a crazy proportion. That's like off-the-deep talk. Matthew Barzal is not getting $8.5 million AAV on a 5 year deal when his new linemate just received $12.5 million over 4. Mitch Marner did not win the Calder Trophy and Mitch Marner is not a top line center. Barzal will always hold that over and above Mitch Marner.

Actual question like what’s your prediction on how barzel would improve and what do you think he’ll get

A fairly reasonable comp for Matthew Barzal's future contract should be Braydon Point's new deal, which should be around $10.5 million AAV. Tampa Bay players seem to be willing to take team-friendly deals below market value, so it could be a little less. If we assume for a second Barzal refuses to negotiate until after next season and has a positively improved season, I think he gets more than $9 million and less than $10 million IF he is being offered a 5-year term or less. However, that comp basically gets thrown out the window if the Isles offer Mitch Marner $12.5 million. If a winger, who is basically Barzal's skill set that is not a center gets that sort of money, what do you think Barzal's people would then ask for....not a penny less than that. It screws everything up and I am not kidding about that.

It would almost make more sense to just trade for Marner for Barzal then. Leafs would then have legitimately the best center depth in the league and it would not even be close.

I am assuming you mean top-6 wingers, since the Leafs have plenty of wingers ready and waiting at the AHL level. I don't think you need to worry though. The Isles are extremely thin at center without Barzal, so I doubt they would ever seriously consider that.

A trade that helps both teams is Marner, Ceci and Bracco for Poluck, Dobson, Wilde and a 1st. It would suddenly give the Leafs a defense worthy of a top contender, since Dobson is basically ready to step in and Wilde should be ready for the 2020-21 season. We do lose a winger, and a potential winger as well. But offense for defense isn't the worst thing.

I can tell you for a fact that Barzal has heard a lot from Lou so far this summer. Lou wants to desperately re-sign him before he does anything else. Also, important to note that Barzal is repped by the same people (CAA) that rep Tavares, Duchene, etc.

He needs a little bulking up but his IQ is there and his skating has gotten much better. A Dermott-Dobson Double-D third pairing would (a) protect them from strongest offensive compeition and (b) work them into more pressing situations like PP and PK slowly slowly.

Let's start with a pony. He needs room to grow and improve with as little expectation as possible. Hard to do in Toronto nevermind just any old NHL team. I wish the Leafs were able to figure out a way to draft him back when he was originally drafted, but have no fear. There are ways we can get him now :P

Haha do you know that technically, Alonzo Mourning was a Raptor. How quickly people forget :P Yes, they have a very weird cap system. Definitely a lot more movement there.
