Damnit guy is really working on me to erase the -relli that i gave him in his nick.....

Had the kid at 3 x 3,9M

Time to let go.

he will never erase the 2M+ and the pickle he created for Marner with Matthews tho....if Marner crops 2M more also, thats 4M in total aka player in rang of Hamonic for D....but hes getting closer for sure....

Between the Habs fan and the Laff fans, somewhere in the middle lies the truth.

Yes, Dubass improved his team next year with the kadri trade, but beyond next year there is no guarantee it is better, more likely even. He lost everyother trade though because he was desperate to shed salary. Prospects and recent draft picks are meaningless to bring up in discussion as none have proven anything at the nhl level yet; it is only your biases that shine through in such arguments.

Overall though, Dubass made space for Marner (apparently, still don't quite understand how there is more than 9mil in space left) while filling the holes left by salary dumps with players that may be downgrades, but at least are new faces (crazy to keep trying to win with the same team of losers).

Should have been a bridge deal under 3 million.

Look out for the Leafs next summer, their DCorps will be re written once again when Barrie, Muzzin, Ceci all leave and Dermott asking for 4+ million.

How to save 1M on 3rd line center and get a top RHD? Ask Dubas!

Well, it's not that hard; you downgrade your 3rd line center in exchange for an expendable RHD....

They gave up those picks and prospects only to let Gardiner leave and now they are in the exact same situation as they were with Gardiner at the beginning of next year.

The Leafs situation next season is quite a bit different than this off season. They go into next offseason with some work to do on D, but their forward group pretty much intact with the exception of pieces of their fourth line, and will have between $16M-$19M in cap space with no albatross contracts. If it makes sense to retain one or even both of Muzzin and Barrie for longer, they will likely have that option, or if it makes sense to go a different route, they will have cap space and flexibility to make changes.

It's a good signing. 4 years buys a year of UFA too. 3.5M is a good cap hit. Hope he lives up to the contract!

Well he did a hell of a job taking over for early worst GM of the year. He inherited a mess. Zaitsev is not a top 4 defenseman
Robertson is a great prospect
they drafted Mikko Kokkonen, some drafts had him in the early thirtys
got a high third back in the zaitsev trade
Marlueo trade sucked, but it is SIX MILLION, 7.5% of the cap.
Gardiner is not as good as barrie, and even if he did resign Tor would have four rhd

Exactly. Lou left TOR a complete mess w/ the weak D and terrible Marleau contract. Dubas has created a clear and decisive path forward in the span of about a week. However, the hardest task still remains: Locking up Marner at a reasonable price. In my opinion, TOR is in a better position to win the Cup next season now than they were before July 1st.

I wouldn't call him a Wizard. He's still very bad.

He's kept the team that same/made it a little worse.

He has also depleted the prospect depth and you guys have no 1st round pick next year. Not a good thing.

Since he inherited the team, he's brought in John Tavares, Jake Muzzin, Tyson Barrie and Alex Kerfoot. He shipped out Kadri and two first round picks to make this happen. He's kept the teams young core in tact and improved the defense. Johnsson and Kapanen are both back. And the early returns on his two drafts are excellent. Sandin is a stud, and even without a first round pick this year, he got Nicholas Robertson and Mikko Kokkonen, who both should be solid players down the road. The only prospects he's traded away are Grundstrom and Durzi. While Grundstrom would be nice to have this year, they're worth it in the Muzzin trade. Even with his young stars demanding more than originally projected, he's able to keep them all and improve the team. Not sure how that makes him a bad GM.

I always kinda liked this player, seems cheaper than Kadri without worry he will get suspended or do something really stupid wink. Least he should be able to play against Boston without getting banned or taking some stupid penalty or major smile. Sure he isn't Tanev like the stud PEnguisn signed but I kinda like this move wink.

Its weird looking back at how everyone thought this was such a great deal while lots of people were saying JT Compher (who signed an identical 3.5x4 contract) was a bad signing. Compher looks like the better player of the two right now - plays a bigger role on a better team, regularly plays all situations, outproduced Kerfoot this season, better playoff/qualifiers performer for the 3rd consecutive year. Avs kept the right guy.

I'd much rather have Kadri at 4.5 than Kerfoot at 3.5
