Good signing, maybe should've signed for 700-750K but it's not an overpayment and he's only 24. Not bad for a 4th liner.

There are so many holes in the Canuck Roster taken up by old contracts.....but that's because no one has stepped up. Stuck with Eriksson, Baertschi, Beagle, Sutter, Schaller, Motte and and and..... They lost Gaunce (poor development) and Granlund (good fill in but no staying) and will loose Hutton (no room for him now anyway with Benn). Maybe this will allow Baertschi or some other softie to leave the Coast (Sutter, Eriksson)?

Agreed, the Leafs could've used a depth player with some experience, though I'm not too concerned about our wingers. The established ones need to work harder defensively, is all.

As for Donny, is Motte really a liability at that price? The other guys though, yeah you have a point. Some aging players and contracts that need shedding.

I don't think he is a liability....he is stuck in a log jam of below average third liners who are scrambling for ice time....Virtanen, Motte, Gaudette, Schaller, Goldy, Leivo. That leaves out Lind, Palmu, Gadjovich....if those 9 were all competing for 6 spots that would be fine.... But on the Canucks we are saddled with Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, Baertschi, Pearson.... The Canucks need either a second line bonafide winger (but they bought out Spooner after a short trial) OR let the young kids play and let them make their mistakes now rather than in three years when the rest of team has improved.

They have done the same on D with Edler and Benn. Canuck top six does not leave room for 4 signed young guys, 2 RFAs and 1 or 2 prospects (Juolevi et al)

Motte was a decent 4th liner, never seemed to get the chance to do much else, but put in a good effort. good on the pk. 1yr deal is fine. The Canucks have to figure out what they have in Goldobin,Leivo and Virtanen, are they 2nd liners? (like they were sometimes used) or 3rd (more likely) or just good 4th liners (Leivo especially) Goldy is on thin ice with the coach, so if he isnt producing and putting in the effort- hes not on the top 2 lines...and therefore will likely be jettisoned.
Their d-corps is fine now, Juolevi is coming off major surgery, so pencilling him in for a top 6 spot now- is premature.

I would like to see Goldy, Jake, Motte and Leivo as a line to see what they have as a crew. Pick any two and then centred by Gaudette. Todays NHL needs three production lines as the skill level is so much deeper than before. If you give two of them a chance for portions of the season and then let some chemistry develop....maybe we would see. Goldy and Jake are horrible in their own zone right now....that needs development to improve- not benching. Motte and Leivo are average on the front end but better in their own end....pick your poison I guess LOL
