too many people here knocking CBJ like there is no talent coming back.
What did they lose really?
Bob.....he was a perennial playoff choker, glad they did not give him that massive way to long contract. They will be choking on that thing in a few years. Smart move.
Duchene...he's been a problem everywhere he's gone. he's 28, that deal is 7 years. Who here really thinks he plays well in his 30s? The only saving grace is the NTC at the end isn't all that bad.
But lets not act like they lost Conner McDavid. They didn't. He's cracked 30 goals once in his career years ago. Now he's aging out of his prime. On top of it, they got young centers in Texier and Foudy that need ice time.
Panarin was an obvious talent and the guy they will actually miss. But lets be honest 11.6 million for 7 years. That contract is gonna run till he's 35 years old. That contract was way too long. He's got a few good years left in him for sure. But it's also rather possible CBJ got the best years out of him for cheap. They will miss him for sure, but in 3 years I don't think Panarin is worth 11.6 a year.
All in all I think CBJ made the right moves. Signing a guy like GN to a short term deal is ideal. Teams have to learn to not make these large mistakes of long term deals to older vets. CBJ is smart in not making them.
