MONTREAL CANADIENS WIN!

This trade doesn't turn Arizona into a playoff team IMO. Pittsburgh get's a middle 6 forward and a great defensive prospect. They also get an extra 1.2 Million in cap space that could be useful in FA.
Arizona is quickly closing their window before it even opens.

Pittsburgh should be trading to win now while Arizona is trading for the future. Both teams are doing the opposite which makes no sense whatsoever.

Galchenyuk is one season away from unrestricted free agency. I'm already highly skeptical that losing Kessel will make Pittsburgh better, but if they don't resign Galchenyuk, this will be a disaster for the Pens.

It depends on how well he does this season. He's a pure PP player, can't defend and can't score 5v5. I'm sure Crosby and/or Malkin will change that though.

I guess they are done winning now and want to do a re-tool. Galchenyuk is more than Capable of playing with Malkin (Malkin will carry him), PO Joseph is very good for Pittsburgh prospect depth.

This is a surprising trade for sure, but I think this works out well for both teams. Phil Kessel's veteran presence will help the young Coyotes team hold together as they push towards playoffs, meanwhile Galchenyuk will be playing with a crazy talented line. Interesting to see how this turns out long term.

Arizona trades a quality prospect (They now only have one good defensive prospect on an aging D-Core team) + a young winger that can grow with them. Kessel is lazy, isn't a good influence, but is capable of scoring goals. This trade makes Arizona's window even shorter and helps pittsburgh long term (they need to win now)

This is a great deal for both sides.

Kessel is reunited with Tocchet. and the Yotes get the raw skill that they need in their lineup. Kessel will be improving the PP and 5v5 scoring, as well as helping players like Keller and Schmaltz improve. He's exactly the type of player the Coyotes need and will be a big boost to their playoff push this year.

Galchenyuk didn't really do a lot to drive play for the Yotes, but he doesn't have to do that in Pittsburgh. He can be a passenger and let Geno drive the play, and really let his shot be his best weapon. It wasn't able to be utilized that well with the Coyotes. PO is a solid prospect, instantly their best D in the pipeline. That's not saying much, but it's something that they needed in their system.

I give the edge to the Coyotes because they got the best player in the deal, but it works out for both, especially with Pittsburgh getting much needed cap relief of almost $3M.

MTL def. crushed it on the Domi trade. But I think PIT will win this deal. Rhey desperately needed a shake up and the extra cap space will help, too. I'd expect Galchenyuk to return to the 25-30G level w/ the potent PIT offense.

I doubt it. He's not capable of producing at more than a 3rd liner at 5V5. I imagine he cracks 20 goals next season, but I feel like 30 goals is a stretch. All depends on if he gets 1st line PP time.

J.R. was trying to play it coy at the draft, but trading Kessel seemed pretty inevitable. Great job by Rutherford getting such a solid return.

I think its a good trade for both sides. In saying that I'm not sure what AZ is doing in terms of cap. AZ gets the best player in the moment but are getting perilously close to running into a cap crunch soon too. PIT gets an electrifying player that can never seem to put it all together for any period of time. All in all it seems like a push to me. The picks and prospects are a toss in IMHO.

Lol 13 votes for fair deal, and the same amount of votes for Arizona as Pittsburgh.

The Coyotes are clearly looking to spark their franchise and are in "win now mode". They needed to make a splash and energize their fan base. They could be a playoff team next season as they play in a top heavy division. I can see them finishing ahead of LAK, ANA, VAN, and EDM.

This reasoning doesn't make sense. You could have said the exact same thing about Carolina before the season that just was. At some point out of your rebuild you push to win, and if you do it on time you're more likely to win

Haha. Usually the votes favor the team that got the best player. Remember the Subban to NJD trade? When you look at the big picture the team that got the better player doesn't always win the trade. There are more factors to consider than just stats. And I think Galchenyuk will crush it in PIT. Kessel will probably take a big step back in point production.

I understand the Coyotes are trying to win now, but I don't see Kessel as being the difference maker to turn them into a contender.
