Kessel Holding Pens Hostage 3 Way Idea

Description
Speculation about way Pens could go after reports from the Athletic.

What I believe is Kessels NTC list:

Washington
Columbus
Philadelphia
Tampa
Vegas
Toronto
Blackhawks
Islanders

One way to circumvent Kessel situation is 3 way trade. Here is an idea for Vegas.

Pens Recieve: Gusev Zucker
Knights Recidves: Kessel Riikola Min 2nd Pit 1st
Minnesota Recieves: Pit 3rd Smith Rights to Gorman

Vegas wins deal as they create cap, get assets and receive Kessel but all teams win because Pens get rid of Kessel and Minny gets rid of Zucker.

Gusev will be best contract in the NHL at 4M IMO.

Might not have to give up first in Ott trade but I would if it was necessary.

Calgary needs secondary scoring with size and goalie and wants to move a Dman.

Cupboards are bare again but Pens are all in next 3 Years so that’s alright. They don’t need to do any deadline shopping with this lineup and have all year to mesh. As long as Sullivan is coach Hornqvist will be on this team. This year would be their last best chance at the cup. They would have a tonne of expiring contracts and would have to resign Murray and McCann and choose a few out of Pageau, Kahun, Schultz, Brodie and Simon to keep but will have some prospects ready to step in at that point so it won’t really matter.

Let’s go Jim let’s do it

Kessel who is a 75-95pts guy with at least 3 years of greatness left, a 1st round who could be top 10 if malkin and crosby get injured, a second, riikola for
Gusev, an unproven unsigned forward and zucker, a 45-60 pts guy. This idea is the definition of destroying a franchise

You obviously don’t know anything about Gusev...

I would take Gusev over Kessel straight up. And the 1st next year with this team is probably gonna be #31 honestly.

Kessel is going to be moved or they’re firing Sullivan. One of the two is gonna happen from reports it seems that management, ownership and Sid/Geno are choosing Sullivan.

Zucker is better than Kessel. These moves (while I don't fully agree with them) extend the Penguins cup contention window by a year or 2

You would take an unproven guy over a ppg player and one of the better players at his position? Makes sense

I'm just not comfortable with giving up 1st round picks for the next 2 years. Adding prospects to the farm system at this point is vital

It’s not ideal but that’s what Pens have done for years and what they will continue to do. Doesn’t matter what happens in 3 Year’s. They are going to need to rebuild either way at that point and will likely lose Malkin. Pens are all in next 3 Year’s so prospects they pick in next couple drafts don’t really make much of a difference because they won’t make an impact for a few years. Most of the time it’s how you destroy a team and it’s an awful idea but the Pens are a special exception because of the last few years of the Crosby/Malkin/Letang window

I know it’s not all about points but kessel has outscored this guy every year of his career. And you can use the BS “BUt hE PlAyS wITh mAlKIn” narrative but even when he played on Toronto with bozak as he centre he was still elite. Sure kessel sucks defensively but that’s not his job. His job is to generate offence and he’s great at it. I’m all for trading kessel but not for the package listed and pens should do better than Zucker. I’d want a young, high ceiling forward back who hasn’t hit his peak yet. Similar to a 2017/18 Guzental

Check out his stats, watch highlights and a few KHL/World championship games. The guy is basically Panarin but less of a goal scorer and more of a playmaker. Is going to dominate this league just like he dominated KHL. Especially playing with Malkin.

Some of the most idiotic statements I've ever read. Phil's job is offense. Put up goals in points. But apparently being a ppg player doesn't mean anything lmao

Stone, Kucherov, Kane, Pastrnak, Wheeler, Arvidsson, Dadonov, Marner, Radulov, Gallagher, Kase, Tarasenko, Eberle, Atkinson, Marhessault.

I could even argue for lesser-known players like Lehkonen, Kapanen and Tuch

Pens don’t have many options for a Kessel trade. They get two players back. Zucker isn’t better than Kessel but he is a great player who would put up career highs on Pitt. Centrepiece of the deal is Gusev though. He is the best player out of all of them.

And thank you for proving my point. Ill take a proven Kessel who puts up a ppg over a guy who is unproven in the NHL. Plotnikov and Yakupov were suppose to be NHL players too. Where are they at?
