Why should VGK move a player that don't effect their cap when the season starts?

David clarkson count on the vegas salary cap!! There something in the cba that said when the salary cap goes up their a % of the player salary that substract from the increase! At the trade deadline that gave you more marge for player but at beginning of the year it count full so 5,750000 millions

Direct quote from LTIR FAQ: LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.

Clarkson is on LTIR. He fits the criteria. As far as I know it, he won't have an actual effect on the cap. His AAV is subtracted from the cap hit until he's declared fit to play. Which he won't be.

Example: The 2017-18 upper limit is $75M, on the last day of the off-season a team has a projected cap hit of $78M and places a player with an AAV of $3.5M on LTIR:
Team cap hit = $78M
Player’s cap hit = $3.5M
ACSL = $78M - $3.5M = $74.5M
To accrue cap space while the team continues to use LTIR, they would need to trade players to get below a projected cap hit value of $74.5M.

The ACSL will always be less than or (in the optimal scenario) equal to the league upper limit. The closer the ACSL is to the league upper limit, the greater the team will be able to exceed the upper limit. There the part a told you! Why pavel datsyuk was trade to pheonix why marian hossa was trade too pheonix why marc savard was trade too new jersey there a reason why team want too get rid of those contract because they lover the maximum cap

The first day off the year all the playet must be on the chart! You have too be under the cap that day so dacid clarkson will count 5,750000 the first day of the next season! That why you need too get rid of it! You need too read more about the subject

Nah, FLA certainly didn't need cap space when they moved Savard.

Datsyuk was going to KHL so it was pointless for DET to keep that contract, hence it was shipped to ARI.

Hossa might've been moved in order to create cap space, but there were some other parts moving too.

Player can be put to LTIR during offseason, and also before the first day off the season. The training-cap equation example says: "The training camp equation can be used on the last day of training camp in preparation for the first day of the season." which is one day before the actual season begins.

Clarkson can be put to LTIR during offseason, and he will be put there again after the training camp. The ACSL of the team gets adjusted then. Quote from the LTIR FAQ: "When a team goes into LTIR, their effective salary cap, or upper limit, is changed. This adjusted upper limit is calculated as a function of the teams cap space and the player’s cap hit. This value is the “accruable cap space limit” (ACSL), and is the first value calculated."

Let's assume and use the example from the FAQ as help. Salary cap is $83M. Let's assume all of the VGK player's cap hit combined is $87,5M, including Clarkson. Clarkson gets put to LTIR, and the ACSL kicks in.

Salary cap = $83M
Team cap hit = $87,5M
Clarkson's contract = $5,25M
ACSL when he's put to LTIR = $87,5M - $5,25M = $82,25M

To accrue cap space while the team continues to use LTIR, they would need to trade players to get below a projected cap hit value of $82.25M.

Putting Clarkson to LTIR will cost them actual cap space, but it gets him out of their books. They need to move other players. That's essentially it.

VGK isn't forced to move Clarkson, and they can use LTIR. But they're forced to move other players.

As for BOS, they decided to go the easier way and pay other teams to take Savard.

Move Haula, Eakin, Holden and Reaves, sign Karlsson and put Clarkson to LTIR and they'd be inside the cap limit. Why should they pay to move Clarkson when it's not necessary, when they'll get some good assets in moving the aforementioned players?

Not really. All of them have some value. Haula's gonna fetch 2nd round pick at least, Eakin's 3rd round pick + something, Holden will get you a 5th or 6th and Reaves goes around the same league. Power forwards and grinders have some value. Recall that Pens wasted a 1st round pick in exchange to him.
