My expectations with NYI are mixed. They seem good to keep themselves in the playoff race, but Lehner had a year that might not be a repeatable performance, and might end up on a new team thanks to Free Agency Market trends for Goalies. Other teams can develop at a faster pace in NYI's division as well, which is why I'm not so sure NYI will be in all 5 playoff appearances in the next 5 years tbh. Maybe 2 or 3 out of those 5 seasons? Hard to say.

I think they at least get in next year, but you're right about Lehner maybe not repeating what he did this season. But how would he not re-sign? I just don't see any way he leaves.

Why wouldn't we re-sign JHS? His QO isn't too high.

It’s not a financial issue, it’s a “Trotz and Lou don’t like him and now that we have Eberle back we don’t need him” issue. Which is a shame, I think he could be a great depth forward for us.

Ladd hits LTIR for this year..worry about moving him next year. Either Leddy for picks to make a run at a sick FA or for a forward under contract (more likely)

I’ve heard they’re looking to move Ladd now, but what you say makes a lot of sense. I joked about Ladd being the new Visnozski, our overpaid “””injured””” LTIR guy, looks like humor might imitate reality.

if he would have had a bigger year he would have got a bigger deal. But the length of the contract is right. 33. Hard to see in todays NHL why any team would sign a player to a longer term than that No reason to go over 33 without it being a 1 or 2 year deal.

Why does everyone think this deal is so great? He only totaled 37 points last season. There are dozens of NHL Forwards making half of Eberle's AAV who scored more goals/points. I wouldn't necessarily call this a bad signing, but I really don't see it as a steal either.

I think it looks like a good signing. Lehner and Lee still need to be re-signed, but we have the cap space, right?

I think they'll get it done this summer. Next summer is the one that could break the bank. Pulock and Barzel are big seasons away from monster long term deals. If I were Lou, I'd try to wrap one of them up this summer. Probably Barzel b/c of his slight regression last season. Pulock should be at least $5M AAV on a long term deal, but that number probably won't increase as much as Barzel's number could. I suppose these are high class problems for the NYI...especially considering where they thought they were a year ago July 1st. Haha!

Wrong. Lou already came out and said he is going to qualify JHS.

What's the deal with the minor league salary in years 3 + 4 being different than the NHL salary? In year 4 the minor league salary is higher.

5.5m for Eberle. The same 5.5m for Ladd. Might be the curse number for the Isles. Should have paid him 5.6m

So, $27.5M for 37 points? I gotta get into this hockey business!

I'm not a fan of either team but ....

JEFF SKINNER
$9,000,000 x 8 Years (Full NMC)
0.67 Career Points Per Game
661 Career Games
442 Career Points

JORDAN EBERLE
$5,500,000 x 5 Years (Partial NTC)
0.72 Career Points Per Game
666 Career Games
478 Career Points

This signing looks amazing in comparison ....

Wow. Pretty low AAV for a guy just one season removed from 59 points

Great deal for the Islanders. He clearly wanted to stay - could have got more on the open market. After the EDM fiasco I think Eberle realized he found a place he was happy and wasn't willing to risk losing it

no likey

Repsect for Eberle on this deal! Gives up some value, gains some term, stays with a team he seems to love playing for. EDM fans are still heart broken he's not on McDavid's wing.

Quoting: DoctorBreakfast
Not sure what the year-to-year salary structure is, but he actually took a pay decrease in his AAV. And it's not like he's just some scrub, he could have easily cleared that on the open market.

Quoting: DragonRaptorHybrid
Lou totally left a severed horse head on Eberle's bed, right?

Quoting: CzechingOut
The only people sad about not having Eberle in edmonton are casual fans or girls that think he is cute. Ebs was butter come playoff time, hes better suited to the east.

It's ok, but I think they'll regret it before its over.

Weird. Very reasonable money and term. Eberle could’ve got a lot more on the open market, great signing for the Isles.

Quoting: EthanK24
Many, many Oilers fans wish that Eberle never left. (Especially because they’d rather him than Sam Gagner)

His production went down but he basically got the same money as in 2013.

I think he overpaid here but time will tell.

Both are terrible.
Should not use terrible contracts as the standard for comparison

Now look at Wayne Gretzky's career stats, why not sign him instead?!

Hint: past production is not necessarily indicative of future performance.

In a league that is getting faster every year Eberle keeps getting slower while Skinner is an excellent skater. Not justifying Skinner's contract as I think is it too high, but Eberle isn't a great bet for 5 more years at that price. IMO.
