I like it too. He's a UFA that's playing really well in New York.

fair deal, a tad bit too much based on his regular season but I assume his playoffs added some value on this contract, so probably just balances out
This starts to set the market a bit on guys like Dzingle, Ferland, johansson

Looks like a steal if he bounces back and I think he will. Got plenty of chances and just couldn't bury them, but started to once the playoffs rolled around.

This also makes me feel better about potentially losing Lee.

I wouldnt say steal, 5.5m for a 37 point player last season. If he gets back to his 55+ point form next season then its a steal, if nots its a fair market value UFA deal for him

Major OOF for Buffalo... skinner at 9m and Eberle at 5.5?? Not a 3.5m difference whatsoever.. and for shorter term tears of joy

Both, but I think term is the bigger issue. Theres a good section of the fanbase/media that thinks Lee will fall hard in the next few seasons and end up looking like the next Andrew Ladd.

Personally, I think a good comparable would be JVR. If Lee got $7 million for 5 years, that would be perfect

Term. I think the $7M AAV ask is fine. Isles prob offering 5 years and Lee wants 7-8

Is he looking for 6-7years? I would want to take him 5 years in an ideal situation. You have to be careful with those big power forward types, they seem to just one day fall apart into nothing so suddenly. Being 29 to start the 2019-20 season, I dont think you want to be paying this guy at 35 or 36.

I would be cool with the 7m, thats fair. 7-8 is too much term at his age. 5 and if you have to 6 is probably what every team would be comfortable with, dont fault the Islanders if thats the case

I think Eberle clearly wanted to stay - could have got more on the open market. After the EDM fiasco I think Eberle realized he found a place he was happy and wasn't willing to risk losing it

As for Lee - that term he wants will be the issue. 7x5 is fine. But anything more and it's not worth it. Could use that 7M (plus a little more obviously) for a Duchene run or something

Believe he's after 7-8, isles want more like 4-5. I feel like his situation will see him go to the market but circle back to the Isles when he doesn't get a seven year offer. But if he does get 7 years, my guess is he takes it and runs

thats a good deal. he is the perfect winger beside nelson on the 2nd line. it gives him some stability and isles get him at a good contract. i think he bounces back in a big way next year

7 years you would be hoping and praying he doesnt fall apart and have to deal with a Corey Perry type situation. The ducks are a good lesson on these contracts for those type of guys who play that power forward game. Plus with a CBA looming, I wouldnt be shocked to see teams go 7 years on 29-30 year old guys.

Agreed. Can't risk overpaying another big forward, as much as I love the guy. Hopefully they can find a reasonable way to bring him back, but if not, I'm good with letting him walk (I think) now that Ebs is in tow

Tough to know how to feel about this one. This could be another Ladd contract, or he could build on his late season success and the playoffs and be on a bargain contract for a few years.

But hey, we need RWs pretty desperately. This is, for now, a smart move.

I agree if he plays like he did in the playoffs. Had a really rough regular season but I expect him to bounce back.
