While I don't think this is anywhere near Trouba's value. Sorry Mike. But if you are waiting for that type of return for Trouba you probably won't get any thing for him. He is a UFA at the end of the season.

I don't think anyone is getting Trouba until July 2020 when he becomes an UFA.

There is no reason why Trouba's camp negotiates with the very few teams that can afford the Jets wishful thinking. 13 months later he can negotiate for top dollar from the whole league. Why would he limit his own value? This whole drum up supposed interest is a plant by Jets management because they want more and are only getting 1 year rental offers.

Oh and Mike Green has a full NTC until Feb 2020 so he can void this trade.

I say this as a Wings fan. There is going to be a bidding war for Trouba. Winnipeg will accept the best offer. AA and a 2nd seeems fair. I don't want to give up Hronek or Cholo, and not McIsaac either.

The Wings aren't giving up a 24 year old 30 goal scorer with blazing speed for a 1 year rental of Trouba. The Jets can ask for anything they want...no one will pay those prices on a 1 year rental when most of the league is priced out of being able to acquire him because of his 1 year RFA contract value.

The bidding war is going to be for 1 year rental prices...not signed to a 7 year contract prices then traded. Trouba would be limiting his own market to just teams that can afford that huge ask instead of the whole league 13 months from now---and he won't get final say in where he plays, which is kinda a big deal for players. That is why Winnipeg is unleashing rumors of a bidding war--to spark up interest as they aren't getting anything close to their asking prices.

No, Winnipeg is going to let teams talk to Trouba so they will know beforehand if he will sign or not.

He's not going to negotiate with only 4-6 teams when he can negotiate with all of them in 13 months. The Jets can let him do it that doesn't mean he will. Thanks but I'll talk contract extensions in July 2020 will be the answer. Winnipeg's a Cup team there is no hurry out of there like there was in Ottawa at the deadline. If you don't get that you don't understand how leverage works.

1) more cap space in 20-21 means higher dollars for UFA's
2) more expired contracts on teams means higher dollars for UFA's
3) getting to choose anywhere you want vs limited choice among a handful of teams
4) better understanding of where the CBA is at so you can structure your contract as lockout proofed
5) negotiating with all the teams in the league vs only 8 that can afford the assets and cap space means higher dollars.

oh and an added bonus of putting it to Jets management that negotiated so poorly you demanded a trade, held out, were took to arbitration by the club 2 years later and is now openly shopping you.

Of course he'll negotiate. Why wouldn't he? If teams give him the money he wants, he'll sign. Teams will be throwing big bucks at him, as players like him are hard to come by.
