Quoting: Rattlehead
No, Winnipeg is going to let teams talk to Trouba so they will know beforehand if he will sign or not.
He's not going to negotiate with only 4-6 teams when he can negotiate with all of them in 13 months. The Jets can let him do it that doesn't mean he will. Thanks but I'll talk contract extensions in July 2020 will be the answer. Winnipeg's a Cup team there is no hurry out of there like there was in Ottawa at the deadline. If you don't get that you don't understand how leverage works.
1) more cap space in 20-21 means higher dollars for UFA's
2) more expired contracts on teams means higher dollars for UFA's
3) getting to choose anywhere you want vs limited choice among a handful of teams
4) better understanding of where the CBA is at so you can structure your contract as lockout proofed
5) negotiating with all the teams in the league vs only 8 that can afford the assets and cap space means higher dollars.
oh and an added bonus of putting it to Jets management that negotiated so poorly you demanded a trade, held out, were took to arbitration by the club 2 years later and is now openly shopping you.
