5 Trades-- TOR VGK or any team BOS EDM TBL

Description
As much as I like these deals, I know this is not realistic. Fenton will not buyout Rask and I believe the Wild will work to re-sign Spurgeon even though they should probably trade him.

Trade Breakdowns

TOR- I have seen this idea floated as a one for one and I think it makes sense for both teams. I hate to give up Greenway but we need a RHS in our Top 6

VGK-- Could be any team with a lot of draft picks. Picked Vegas because they have a RHD to add to the package. It might me too much, I think I would be happy with on of the returns for Aberg. But this wont happen imo, Fenton just traded for Aberg las year and will want to give him another look.

BOS- Reunite Zucker and his best buddy Coyle. Bos sheds Backes contract and adds some value to the Trade. Bos adds a young(ish) potential 25-30 goal scorer with decent cap for years to come. Gives Bos a good chance to repeat as E.C. champs

EDM-- The value might be off, but I think Benning would fit in nice in Min Top 4. Edm gets a decent pick and 2 bubble NHL players.

TBL- This one only works if Spurg has an extension worked out with TBL. I think JT Miller would play Center for the Wild and get either 1st or 2nd line minutes.

Thanks

Thanks for the comment. I think that Spurgeon for JT Miller works for both teams. I added the 5th because I think MIN would want a little insurance after the Nino for Rask fiasco.

I know Kap has more value, but I have seen this idea floating around on some TOR teams and it makes sense, if Min has to add a late round pick (5-7) it might make it more even value wise. I think some value for Tor comes in the form of cap relief

Thanks. I thought it was Fair. Essentially Min gets a good prospect, a middle 6 player and late 1st and Bos gets out from Backes and gets Zucker

I haven't seen any official rumors. I think it was proposed on CF and people have just started to run with it.

As a Boston fan I wouldn't touch that deal.

Backes will be easier to move than people think (post July 1st). Sweeney is also very much a draft and develop guy and his 1st rounder was basically a non-starter in all trade takes this TDL. Wagner just signed here, is a hometown kid and fan favorite. I also don't see Sweeney moving on from Senyshyn just yet as the Bruins have been happy with how he's develop from a offensive minded scorer to a 200ft player.

Ya an offensive minded guy that doesn’t produce offense.

Take out Wagner and I’m all about that Boston deal

I had a wild fan try to tell me it would be kap and a 2nd to get greenway, but you are right it's pretty close in a 1 for 1 due to the cap relief.

For Zucker I'd propose:

Backes + Senyshyn + 2020 2nd + Nordstrom (Like the player but I prefer to keep Wagner)

I am not sure that argument is sound. I am a Leafs fan and I would take this trade for sure. Personally, I think they both are about equal in terms of value and its a perfect trade for both teams. Both are young players, TO gets as much as 2 million in cap savings and Minnesota gets a RW who shoots right. Its a good trade idea.

I may be the reason the Greenway trade has been around so much. Posted it several times a few weeks ago and it got some good comments.

I wouldn't really consider Wagner anywhere outside my bottom 6, but at the same time I think of Zucker as a legit 1st liner, so you could honestly probably squeeze out more value here. I'd easily part with Zboril or Lauzon, and I'd personally pay to get rid of Moore at 2.75

Thanks for the comment. I still think Backes will be tough to move. His NMC does move to an 8 Team NTC, but you still need to find a team with Cap Space willing to take on his contract. He might accept a trade to come home to Min. I read a rumor that Boston put their 2019 1st and Kurlay on the table for Eric Staal at the TDL, so I think Zucker would fetch a greater return especially if Min took on Backes. Thanks again

Agreed. But if the first was 100% off the table, another top tier prospect would need to be added. Thanks

After July 1st Backes is only owed $5 million total over the next two seasons. He's a prime candidate to get flipped to a cap floor team who would retain 50% and flip him to another team of his choice. In total the middle man gets a $3 million hit per year, while only having to pay $1.25 million per year. IDK where you read that rumor, but Sweeney refused to include a 1st for Brayden Schenn, I can't imagine he changed his stance for Staal.

How about Senyshyn and Backes for a 4th? Smaller deal. Bruins use that money to sign mojo and Minnesota goes elsewhere to get a return for Zucker

Yeah so Backes isn't a huge problem, but exactly how low do you value Zucker? Think what you want of Senyshyn, but the likelihood of him turning into anything close to Zucker is very low at this point. As for the 1st round pick that chance isn't very high either, and if it happens it's probably another 2-3 years down the road. Bergy is 35 at that point. What kinda player would you give up these assets for then?

I think I would take that deal if it were MIn 2020 4th or 2019 5th (from Was). Min 2019 4th is from NYR and would be a high 4 (and on this ACGM team I traded away Min 3rd)

Which Cap floor team our you thinking? He still will have a NTC for 8 teams. So he could deny a trade to a lot of the Cap Floor teams. My best guess those 8 teams will at least include Ottawa, Arizona, NJD, FLA, Van and he will still get to pick 3 others. CBJ might be a an option if they dont retain any of their UFAs (they are also low on picks). All I am saying is it still might be hard to find a trade partner.

Think of it as a 3-way trade, but for retention reasons it's two separate deals. Backes would know ahead of time his final destination and would waive. For example...

To ARZ - Backes + Cehlarik + mid pick/prospect
To BOS - depth player or late pick or older under achieving prospect

To MIN - Backes @ 50% retained
To ARZ - Pick/prospect

-Boston gets cap space
-Arizona gets $3 million in dead cap (only paying $1.25 mill) + picks/prospects
-Minnesota gets Backes @ 50% retained

^That's the framework of how you move Backes using a cap floor team.

Interesting idea for sure, and has some contingencies and moving parts. I think Min would be an easy no on that specific deal. Min would not want a return of just Backes even at 50% without anything else, the whole point of a team accepting Backes would be to get additional pieces in return.

Right which is the middle man in this situation because they are taking on the dead cap. The final team would be interested in actually acquire Backes and they get him at 50% retained, which is actually a pretty solid deal.

What if Boston retained 50%? no middle man, just straight deal with Minny. What kind of offer would you have around that.
