Nashville gets their shakeup while diversifying their salary, and their bottom-of-the-barrel powerplay gets a familiar face back in Hornqvist that they might over-value. The Pens add depth where needed while taking an expensive risk on Turris, with the hope being that he and Kessel can solve each others problems. Its a risky move, but Turris is flailing in Nashville and swapping skill for size (Bjugstad) might better fit their scheme while saving cap space and term. Worst case scenario sees Turris sold off to Seattle at a loss (similar to Fleury) after the Pens limp through the next two seasons, but the Pens won't likely be serious competitors by then regardless of Turris' performance.
A Pettersson-Subban pairing would have the tools to be as effective as the Dumo-Letang pairing has been, and that kind of minute-eating depth with an offensive punch can't be matched by most teams. Johnson and Gudbranson are put in the position they need to be in to not completely suck until one or both can be moved.
Maatta is moved for roughly market value to Minnesota to shed salary. Adding Maatta gives the Wild strong depth down the left side and a cushion to comfortably shop Brodin for a forward if they wish to go that route. Some nice things have been said about Eriksson-Ek by coaching and management in Minnesota, but high picks with no production don't have a long shelf life.
