I'm not going to quote everyone because three responses are identical. My answer:

This is the ONLY way the Leafs can get Marleau off their books. I think they would like to re-sign Marner.

This idea is gaining traction because if NYR do not sign Panarin, taking on Marleau's contract is another effective use of their cap.

Its an overpayment for a salary dump, the leafs can dump other salaries to keep marner under the cap without losing Kap and their 1st. Not only that, but Marleau has to agree to waive his NMC, and why would he want to relocate hsi family to New York?
