Deal with Nucks and Tor Offer Sheet

Description
I know this isn't "realistic" because Fenton will not buy out Rask (even though he should) and the Wild will not land Skinner, but one can imagine. Also I am not a fan of offer sheets and do not think Fenton would offer sheet any RFA this year.

Trying a different Trade Idea with the Nucks.

Nucks Trade:
This is the breakdown for this deal; Zucker for Nuck 2019 3rd, Nucks 2020 1st, and Virtanen and Aberg for Leivo. Wasn't sure if I should have included the 2019 3rd, but I think that value is close.

I do not like Offer sheets, but this might be the year to try and steal a player from Tor with their potential cap issues. Does Tor match this offer for Kap? I think they do, but it would make things interesting.

Thanks for the read

I think the question becomes:
Why would you want to overpay Kapanen? He is at best a 2-3 RW right now (basically a solid middle 6 guy). If you were going to pay him that much, give him the Dvorak deal, it'll look way better for way longer.

Much like when Kessel was traded when an offersheet was a threat, the team holding the players rights will trade him for a fair return before it gets to an offer sheet. So if you want Kapanen, trade for him and make it a fair trade, otherwise its highly unlikely.

Who in that Minny deal with the Canucks is worth a 1st rounder? Cause I do not see it.

Thanks for the comment. Again, I agree that an offer sheet is not the best solution. It does seem that 3.5 mil- 5 mil seems to be the going rate for 2nd line players these days. A lot of the better teams in the League have their 2nd line guys making 4+ mil (Tor, TB, Was, Pit, WPG, VGK, etc). So it may be a little over payment for Kap? Yes, but I think it is close to the 2nd line price point.

Not to mention we still have V. Rask who is making 4mil a year as our 13th forward.

Agreed. What do you think a fair deal would be for Kap? I do not mean to offend, but How about this Pateryn, a 2nd round pick and a B prospect in our system?

I'd prefer Greenway in a one for one or TO adds another asset like a 3rd.

I don't think that Fenton would do it, but if you made the 3rd a 2nd, I would do it. Greenway for Kapanen and 2019 2nd?

I would do that too, although I think a 1 for 1 is a very fair and smart trade for the teams to make. Minnesota very much needs a right handed scorer up front and the Leafs could use a bigger power forward like player. Greenway looks like he has a pretty high ceiling but I think there is a very good chance that he ends up being a 40 point guy at best in Minnesota. I don't see him having the tools to be elite on his own, he strikes me as more of a high value support guy. Much like Kapanen, although Kap's speed does create chances for himself as well.

Agreed. I think it would be a good trade and I would pull the trigger. Although it probably wont happen (GMs don't want to give up on these young players) It seems like the fit is there for both Min and Tor on this deal. Thanks!

The reason why this one could work is they are one year apart in age, so its not like either team is giving up on a player. It makes sense for TO to make the move because it does give them an ELC for a high value RFA. Minnesota won't have issues fitting Kapanen and TO finds about a couple million in savings for a player that can be a good young player for the team for many years (which is how many see Kapanen)

Vancouver decline, Virtanen and Leivo are younger and can produce the same amount of goals and points as Zucker and Aberg.

I'd say Zucker for Virtanen straight up is a deal that makes some sense.

There are so many ways to go the trade route with Toronto! Each team has a few players that would fill holes the other way.
