As the elder statesman int he game, I'd just like to remind everyone of this little tidbit.......
In the Pre-Season rankings, I'm #1, first place, top of the mountain.....and yet I'm still told my players aren't good enough when it comes to making trades
Also as a separate note, can I just put this here so everyone reads it and tries to understand.
When it comes to discussing trades, I'm the kind of person who would much prefer for the other GM to be up front enough to tell me what/who they would need in the specific deal being discussed.
Rather than me approaching another team and the answer being "what would you offer", then when I mention the assets I'm currently open to working with gets shot down because it's not a big enough haul for the other team, or the player(s) aren't good enough.
Can you guys not be open enough to say what you think you might need from my side int he deal. That way you know what I want, I know what you want and it can be negotiated or moved on from.
Wouldn't you rather openly discuss the possible pieces to making a deal, or does it make you feel better to reply by saying the offer sucks.
I mean, I'm sure if people look back at my opening statements when asking about a deal, it usually always starts with, "is player x available or what would it take from my team to get player x". That's a clear invitation for you to tell me what you'd need giving me the opportunity to either agree, disagree or discuss more options.
And for the love of all things good, PLEASE BE HONEST. If you're simply fishing to see how high you can set the price on someone, just say it rather than letting others think they might have a shot at getting a deal done. If you wanna play the game based on how much you can get, then chances are we won't be working together.
My way of thinking doesn't live in your mostly teenage or under 30 world, and since I've treated every one of you with complete respect, is it too much to ask that you at least make an effort to raise your thinking level when approached.
To close this, I cannot wait for summer to be over and the season to begin so we aren't all bored at driving each other crazy.
