Tyson Barrie is worth a lot more than a conditional second round pick and a backup goalie

Not a fan of those trades, especially the Barrie one. Thats not enough for one of the Top offensive Dman in this league . Not sure what the Georgiev hype is about on this site..young goalie with potential but terrible AHL numbers and league average numbers. The only thing that is going for him is youth and goalies never fetch a big return

Look at Gruabeur, 26 at the time of trade putting up good numbers in a small sample size only fetched a 2nd rounder.

I'm confused, why bring in another goalie like Georgiev when Grubauer has been excellent of late? I think they would want a much larger return on a Barrie deal. I'm sure Toronto would throw them a hefty package for him.

Agreed.
Theres better return for Barrie out there.
Id also rather have Kerfoot than Rust personally.

Caps could have gotten more for Grubauer, but wanted to dump the Orpik salary. I believe there were rumors that Carolina was offering a first rounder for him, but the Caps didn't want to trade him within the division.

with in division price tag of a 1st, and yes it was a good piece of business by Sakic to just part with one of one of his 2nd rounders that year to take on the cap dump...but point is that Barrie is worth more than that return here. Goalies never fetch marquee values back, Talbot a coulple draft picks, Martin Jones a 1st rounder, Grubi a 2nd rounder (with cap dump) Varly 1st and 2nd rounder. Goalie trades live within that world, not elite offensive Dmen

Avs also have Francouz in the AHL, who is primed to be re-signed to be the back up next year, unless for some strange reason Varly wants to sign to be a back up on a short deal which is very very unlikely

I see it to be more likely that Francouz is the backup and if not, i think the Avs go to FA for a backup (maybe a Nilsson or Stolarz @ 2.5-2.75 mil). I think the likelihood of Varly coming back, is less than 15%.

I think Varly is gone too, he will be starter somewhere. Who know maybe even in Calgary. If its Frankie, or a guy like Nilsson/Stolarz (not a big fan of bc they arent very good) but regardless it would be like you said cheap 1 or 2 year deals to plug a hole.

I think an intresting play would to take on a goalie in a trade from another team looking for cap relief. Just for an example not saying its the right target...Panthers with Reimer...2 years left at 3.4m. His numbers are not that much different from Nilsson/Stolarz as back ups. So can you take on that contract to back up and gain an asset from the Panthers

Thats the kidn of goalie trade I think Avs should explore, weaponize their cap space a bit

What about:
Bobrovsky to FLA $$
FLA moves Reimer + pick or prospect to Avs to free up the cap space for Bob signing
Varly signs with CLB to fill the hole left by Bob leaving

full circle

That wouldnt shock me at all, I actually can see that happening. Try to get back the Avs 4th round pick that they used for Brassard

Terrible return for Barrie. Signing Kerfoot on a bridge and then trading him is also a bad deal. I like Rust but not worth it.
