It’s a superstition thing. And it’s really not. Nylander is overpaid and his most recent season was horrendous. Jensen is a cheap rhd and this gives you more cap space to spend on Marner aj and kap. Might not be the best offer for him but it helps multiple issue leafs have

Not a lot of teams are willing to take on 7 million in cap for a guy who most recent year he was scoring at a 32 point in 82 game pace.

If the Nylander deal is fair in your opinion, can I offer you a Travis Dermott for OV?
Your take on Nylander is horrendus. He had a fine season and is not overpaid. He started 2 months late and took a bit under 2 months to catch up. He was at a 60 point pace once he was in form and has been fantastic. Jensen is a 3rd pair guy, maybe a 2nd on the Leafs.

You offered a 2-3RHD and a 2nd for a 1-2RW. Get the **** outa here man.

Ov has 50+ goals and 80 points haha please don’t be dramatic.

Nylander has a worse year than Andre Burakovsky haha you need to get over yourself with this one

Nylander at his best this year was a 40 point guy .5g please show me where you saw 60 points. Tell me the stretch.

Gtfoh ha

Agree to disagree I do t feel like arguing with you on this. Nylander has a terrible year for a guy who is making 7 million

You need to ****ing get ahold of your hot takes. Honestly, your beyond trolling at this point. If you don't think Nylander is a fantastic player you're either blind, stupid, or most likely trolling. Please reconsider your ****ty opinion.

Haha 27 points in 54 games is terrible idgaf about your advance stats. It’s what people use when players aren’t showing up on the stat sheet but they want to say they are good. That’s .5 pot that’s 20 points less than last year.

Lol. Just ****ing lol. A complete lack of understanding about basic stats, a ****ty or (more likely) no eye test and a reliance on pure points. He played his first game around game 30, it took him ~2 months to get in NHL shape, so he only played about 30 games in form this year. Once you factor that his point totals are not too bad. Watch him play. He is fantastic.

That's the worst Nylander trade I've ever seen on CapFriendly. And that's saying a lot. You've achieved the hockey equivalent of falling below the Mendoza line. And that's after being confronted with facts. I thought Washington as a fact-free zone only applied to politics.

Hahaha yes. Nylander is so elite. I’m sorry I must not watch the leafs play enough. .5 ppg is so good. Man teams will literally break down the door for that production. 27 points in 54 games is worth way more than 7 million a year. How’d you get such a cheap deal for him?

What the **** are those Nylander and Holtby trades? And Burakovsky is in no way worth that much; if the Caps indeed want to keep him, they're better off doing what they did with Connolly (don't qualify him, but give him less money than his QO and convince him to stay).

They signed bc as a rfa. You’re thinking of dsp. Holtby shouldn’t be traded but it’s more of get something than let him walk for free trade. Samsonov has been a stud in the ahl Since getting situated. Nylander trade was getting the leafs a bottom 4 dman on a cheap contract to free up cap to sign Marner aj and kap. Nylander more than likely would need to be moved if the Marner negotiations go high. Like mojo for the caps.

A lot ****ing higher then a bottom 4 dman lol. You have zero ability to evaluate players. Stop trying to tell us how good players are actually ****, and ignoring any evidence to the contrary.

There isn't a realistic trade that I can think f that I would accept, so I can't give you a definitive answer.
Before the season, I offered Willy for M. Tkachuk as long as Tkachuk signed an extension for less than willy. Since then Tkachuk has broken out, but I see Nylander's value as Tkachuk's from before this season as a 1-for-1 cap dump (Nylander was slightly more valuable at the time with the 500k-1M cap dump making up the difference, Tkachuk has since surpassed his value however).

TL;DR

To CGY:
Nylander
To TOR:
Tkachuk (before- 2018-19 season)
500k in cap savings

See before this season I don’t think that would have been that bad. IMO tkachuk value was maybe slightly more but very close I can agree with that. But they are nowhere near each other currently. So in your opinion nylander is an untouchable? I guess the best way I can try to rationalize what you are saying is Tom Wilson is a guy I wouldn’t trade for even the highest of overpayments. His value isn’t in points but what his intangibles are.

My thought on the nylander trade were more for

1) cap space
2) I value aj and kap higher (based off the previous year ) and imagined they would be cheap for a similar production. Assuming nylander would prevent you from keeping both
3) Jensen is a solid bottom 4 puck moving dman who is extremely cheap. He could easily slot into tml top 4 is hainsey retired

Nylander is strong where Matthews is weak, and Matthews is strong where Nylander is weak. They work together very, very well. So yeah, Nylander is untouchable, especially inthis new NHL contract situation. Kyle Conner is going to get a similar deal to Nylander for example, so his deal will look very good very quickly, and he is a fantastic transition player and set up man for Matthews who is one of the best finishers in the league, but weaker at transition.

Basically I rate them like:
Marner: #1RW
Nylander: #1-2 RW
Kapanen: #3RW (potential to be #2RW, guaranteed to develop into a #2-3)
Brown: #3-4RW (he is having a down season but wherever he goes next year should find him to be a top 9/3RW guy)

I use my own scale that looks like this:
Forwards

1LW-1C-1RW
1/2LW-1/2C-1/2RW
2LW-2C-2RW
2/3LW-2/3C-2/3RW

Fair enough. So who’s your odd man out if Marner get 11-12 million. Obviously hypothetical. I’m assuming brown but if it has to be aj or kap since you won’t move nylander.

Lmao this is a steamy thread. I actually like all the trades except the Nylander one. Jensen is good, but cmon dude, he’s not worth nylander aha. Is nylander worth two second round picks and Madison Bowey? No way leafs make that deal.

The rest of the deals you made are solid

Nylander a value imo is in limbo. Look at players who get paid and become complacent. He had a bad year and is making 7 million a year. And In all fairness I said this isn’t going to be the best offer but it helps fix multiple issues. Also Jensen was worth Bowey and a 2nd as a ufa. His value is much higher signed at 2.5 m x4 years. He’s a solid bottom 4 dman who can move the puck well. Dude got mad bc I said nylander had a horrendous year.

Nylander scores 20 less points this year.based off Ppg average

The only players that need to move are Connor Brown and Maybe Zaitzev.

There is no reason for Marner to get more than 10.~ and realistically there is no reason he should get more than 9.5 (but there is a good chance he will).
Basically I see Marner as (from https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1071453):
Marner options (Purely done by math):
8@11.616
7@10.866
6@10.116
5@9.366
4@8.616
3@8.241
2@7.866
1@7.491
Marner's Realistic Options (Rounded and/or added important numbers):
6@10.116
3@8.293
3@8.250
3@8.216

You have to remember that before the Matthews contract was signed (like the day before) Marner was asking for 8@9.5aav (reportedly).

Kapanen is good friends with Nylander and is reportedly very open to a team friendly bridge deal, so he might get a 2 year deal as low as the Hyman contract aav (slight discount), but I tend to estimate him as 2@2.75aav.
Johnsson is reportedly less team friendly (he took his QA to get a bigger contract this year) and his point totals are a bit less than Kapanen, but his play has been better (imo), so I put him around 3-4@2.75-3 (If he goes longer, he'd be looking for ~4aav).

That Leaves us with (contracts I estimate have the term included in the numbers):

Hyman(2.25)-JT(11)-Marner(?)
Johnsson(3@2.75)-Papi(11.634)-Nylander(6.962)
Marleau(6.25)-Kadri(4.5)-Kapanen(?)
Marlie(1@0.874)-Goat(0.675)-Moore(0.775)
Petan(0.775)

Muzzin(4)-Zaitzev(4.5)
Rielly(5)-Dermott(0.863)
Rosen (0.750)-Marlie/UFA(1@850)
Holl(0.675) <----- (could be the 3RD)

Andersen(5)
Sparks(0.750)

Roster size: 22
Forwards hit: 48.445 (w/o Mitch and Kappy)
Defence hit: 16.638
Goalies hit: 5.75
Total hit: 70.833 (w/o Mitch and Kappy)
Expected cap: 83-84.5 (If NHL underestimated by same margin as last year, could go as high as 84.5)
Cap Space: 12.167 - 13.667 <--- Space to sign Kappy + Marner

So if mitch gets the 6 year deal at 10.116, that leaves Kappy with 2.051 under an 83 mil cap. If the cap goes higher or mitch takes a touch less (say 6@9.5) then everything is fine cap wise.
