Let's put it this way I guess: would you trade Kotkaniemi for that? Because everything I've seen points to Kakko being significantly better than him

For all this if i was Rangers?

Drouin, Jonathan
Suzuki, Nick
Romanov, Alexander
2019 1st round pick (MTL)
2019 2nd round pick (CBJ)

Umm yes

Drouin is 60-80 pts
Suzuki is playmaker/goal scorer
Romanox is going be stud

Drouin's highest point total is 53. Suzuki is a pretty good prospect. Romanov is solid, but the rangers have more than enough prospects that play the same game. They haven't had someone with the potential of Kakko in ages and they've got a big enough farm to supplement everything else.

This is a earlier thread today it might lean toward Montreal a bit but it was close. That was only moving to #5.
https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/215227

This mock is moving to #2. Hughes and Kakko are the best players in the draft by a somewhat large margin. So I not sure a deal can be made that would make both teams happy. I'm assuming NYR would want around the same amount it would take for a team to get Poehling from Montreal.

this is one of those things that wont happen with 1 trade .

see brian burke's journey to get the #2 and #3 picks to draft the sedin sisters.
he traded away half his team in many deals to move up .

you'd need to trade Petry and a 1st to PHI for their 1st , 2nd ,4th and Meyers .
then trade PHI high 2nd and CBJ low 2nd along with Lehkonen for FLA's 13th overall pick .

take your 11th and 13th overall picks you acquired making a deal with Detroit for their 6th overall by trading them your 13th overall and Primeau (which is a huge loss for MTL)
take your 11th overall and Tatar trading for Buffalo's 7th overall, 2nd round pick and prospect

you'll end up with a 6th and 7th pick which you can then trade together hoping someone like CHI who's got 3rd overall and a desperate need to fill their depth at Center after multiple let downs from 2013-2017 landing two centers in the top 10 of the most stacked draft since 2003 might be worth passing on a Cozens or Dach to get Turcotte/Zegras or Byram/Krebs .

its not worth it though and there's only been 3-4 times in the expansion era a top 2 pick was traded as even in **** drafts its not common as most teams protect the picks they trade specifically for this reason

i think you're just trying to say nicely that NYR is years from figuring out who its new core is going to be due to the fact you already have almost 10 first round picks either signed or you own their rights. if anything you're more likely to sign E.Karlsson and build around him with youth then sell your draft pick .

CHI on the other hand if they can get a pick 5-8th back and either a player or a 2nd round pick then i see them being willing to pass on Cozen's and Podinski with ease knowing they'll still get a Dach,Byram ,Turcotte,Krebs or Boldy . Hughes and Kakko are another story but after that you got from Superstar to All Star from 3-10th then Just NHL Star's past that into the later 1st round .

Here's the truth: the Rangers haven't had a great prospect in 20 years because their fans don't have the patience to wait to develop them.

Kaapo looks solid but ask yourself this: would you make the same trade for Laine? Puljujarvi? Both had almost identical pedigrees to Kaapo. The Habs would be dumb to make this deal. Suzuki and Romanov are pretty sure bets. Drouin, for all his faults, had a great first 55 games before hitting an invisible wall. Who's to say he won't figure that out? And a 15th pick?!!

No thank you.
