myers I think is a must for this team. never have they needed to go get a rock on the back end as they do now. I would love to move one of the top 6 forward group for another top 4 dman also. I hate to move mantha or AA but they seem the logical choice. this team has never seem to embrace AA so maybe its sell high on his 30 goal season and use him to get trouba or dumba or weresnki.

Yes let’s trade a 24yr old with 30g, a 18yr defenseman with a huge up side and most likely a 1st rd pick or 2. SOUNDS GREAT! For a 27 defenseman.
Sorry Trouba is 25 and Werenski will probably take Larkin to pry him free. Dumba is 24.

But Trouba is the only one that MIGHT move because they can't sign him long term or find some to meet their asking price. But it's still going to be player, pick and Prospect. Werenski and Dumba don't have to be moved so it going to cost a lot.

with zadina on the way plus maybe kakko or cozen in this draft adding a top paid defenseman isn't a terrible idea. I have zero faith this team can turn cholo or hronek into a legit top paid defenseman. ive heard it about every young blueliner we've had for 15 years and they haven't done it. li dont want to give quality players away but adding trouba or dumba helps this team a lot. im not giving the whole team and draft for one.

Just about anything will be an upgrade for us on the Blue line, especially since Green's status is in question and Kronner is at MOST 1 year from retirement. Same with Daley and big E. Will be lots of turnover on the blue line shortly, so I say why not accelerate the process by buying out B52, trading Daley and bringing in a guy like Myers now.

If Kronner retires, I say we should also kick the tires on Gardiner. If his back isn't borked and the AAV is reasonable, he would also be an upgrade to the current core. Read: I'M NOT SAYING HE'S GREAT. But for facks sake, most these guys are bums, old and decrepit, or will be gone within a year anyway.

About Gardiner go back and read through of Toronto past mocks I've read a lot of them and there is a lot of negative posts on Gardiner and his play. If we could sign the 28yr old for around $5.5M maybe but you go much over that and he's not worth it and since he will probably sign around $7M I don't think he is worth it. I do think Myers is better but any thing over$6.5M i think we are overpaying. Even if all our players progress as expected we still aren't a playoff team so why rush out and over pay a defenseman just because we have cap space. With Trouba if we can get him for Mantha and a 2nd ok but giving up more pick and prospects to early is why so many teams seem like they have rebuilding forever. You rebuild with picks and developing them and you don't start trading them away till your in the playoffs and can't get over that hump to being a true contender.

For any Detroit Fans or hockey fans in general: I just saw The Russian 5 movie and if you haven't seen it I do suggest you go and see it.

Normally I'd agree on not overpaying UFAs but most our D is either already bad or will be gone by this time next season. So we're going to need replace some talent. I agree on your ceilings for those potential contracts though.

And yes, if you're a wings fan or even a hockey fan in general, go see that movie.
