If Rasmus Andersson develops like he has been, he will surpass Hamonic on the depth chart and be demoted to the third pair. This is too low for him and considering Calgary's weak bottom 6, it would make sense to trade him to a team where they can get good offensive depth
    2.
    CAR
Similar situation to Calgary, a team with stacked defensive depth but weak forward depth. Pesce is a good young defenseman on a good contract who would fit great on a pairing with Rielly or Muzzin and would give Carolina a boost on offense
      3.
      MIN
Minnesota looking to get younger as we have seen with the Charlie Coyle trade. Spurgeon is the exact player you would trade. Spuregon, who turns 30 in November, would greatly benefit the Leafs, who in return can provide Minnesota with the youth they're looking for
        4.
        NSH
An unlikely option, could happen if Nashville is eliminated due to a lack of offense. A Dman like Ellis would fetch a huge return from a team looking to add a RHD like the Leafs who could in return give the Preds the offense they would want in this case
          5.
          STL
The Blues have shown that they're focused on the future as we have seen when they have traded Shattenkirk and Stastny at the deadline during playoff races. The same could happen to Pietrangelo. Colton Parayko is another RHD who will need top pairing minutes to develop into a true #1 Dman, but will not get those minutes unless Pietrangelo is moved to the 2nd pairing which is unreasonable for a #1D. A team like the Leafs has pieces the Blues would be interested in if they were to shop him around
            6.
            STL
Another unlikely option, if the Blues decide to keep and extend Pietrangelo as a leader for younger players, like I mentioned earlier, Parayko would not get his minutes to become a true #1 Dman. Instead of him never hitting his full potential, the Blues may want to trade him when his value is high and get valuable assets in return, such as Nylander
              7.
              VGK
Miller has been scratched for Vegas a few times which could mean that they think he's not doing well enough. This could mean his value is lower than normal and he can be acquired at a cheaper price. Toronto had interest in Miller before the expansion draft and now that he's broken out into a top 4 Dman, now would be a great time to acquire him
                8.
                WPG
Trouba has shown that he does not want to be in Winnipeg long term, shown by his holdout and recently signing only a 1 year deal. A trade request may be coming soon, and if he has interest in playing for the Leafs long term, there is no reason not to try and get him.

Trouba wants to play in the states. His father has issues crossing the border. This is why he won’t sign long term in winterpeg...

Let's be honest, most of these players would be a fit on at least 1/2 the teams in the NHL; maybe Colin Miller is the exception.

The question isn't as much which one of these works for the Leafs as frankly any of these would help the Leafs, it's what can the Leafs afford and who's going to be the sacrificial lamb because it's going to take one of their core assets to get any of these Colin Miller aside.

Something to consider; Risto for Zaitsev and Nylander or Risto for Kap.

In terms of Pietrangelo I'd just wait til 2020 when he's a free agent to sign him. The most sense is Pesce for say Kapanen and a draft pick; Carolina needs help up front and Kapanen has a ton of upside. Pesce would slide in nicely as the top RHD with Rielly and costs less than Zaitsev.
                  Rielly-Pesce
                  Muzzin-Dermott
                  Sandin-Rosen

I could see Zaitsev on the move (Leafs retain $500,000) if both Rosen and Sandin are NHL ready, which it look like they are.

Leaf fans seem to have this obsession with RHD. Admitting nice to have, but since most players are lefties it might be impossible to to get three RHD in your top six. Another obsession, labelling Dmen as # 1, # 2 etc. No, when you're on the ice, and six guys have to rotated in and out, everyone of them better be NHL competent.
Leafs are in a cap crunch this year....as are about six teams. Leafs have rid themselves of cap. To get one of these players just adds to the cap,,,,unless the Leafs are able to jettison more cap elsewhere.
In that list, four of those players are on expiring contracts, so the Leafs would be trading just for one year. The only reasonable trade might be for Pesce, and will his five year term, would think at least Nylander has to go the other way. And as much as Leaf fans want to add Zaitsev to any deal which just takes away the Leafs only sure RHD on the team next year....so Zaitsev stays.

I love your Collin Miller Explanation, because it's clueless

He was scratched at the trade deadline when they were negotiating a trade for Mark Stone,

He was leading the team in TOI when Schmidt was suspended

outside of the Mark Stone trade, he is not going anywhere

Instead of trading Nylander or Kapanen for a RHD why not try them out on D first, they're RH and resign Gardiner to play top 6 LW. Or 2 words for you, Roman Polak, problem solved.

                  this is a joke.
