Well for starters you put Horton on LTIR, opens an additional 5 mil. I'm not worried at all. Duby has got it under control.

I'd be more worried about a first round exit if I were you tears of joy

But seriously, I'd rather watch basketball than have to see B52 out there on a PK

None of those teams should be worried? all are legit cup contenders for at least the next three years. The only player that the leafs might lose that is of importance is one of Kappy or Johnson, and if it happens so be it, that's not making or breaking this team.

Lol worry about making the playoffs in the next five years. What kind of hockey fan ever says they would rather watch basketball. I'd rather watch Womens Hockey than NBA

Nah man. I'll make a team, break it down for you. With whatever Marner contract you want to give me, you call it.

You haven't had to watch a 6'5 pylon with no offensive upside lumber around this ice costing you over $4 mil per.

Lotta big talk coming from a fan of a franchise that hasn't won the cup since color TVs were new. awesome face

5 years 10.35 million per. Don’t get me wrong, the leafs will still have an awesome team, but they’re losing someone

As bad as we are now, I wouldn't trade the last 30 years for anything. But going from the likes of Lidstrom on the blue line to what we have now has been quite the fall from grace.

Also going to use 81,500,000 as a cap estimate. I think that's fair.

Horton - LTIR (the obvious and smart decision)
Johnsson - 3/4 years around $3M
Kapanen -2/3 years around $2.8M
Rosén - called up from the Marlies for 3rd pair d (he's looked great in the AHL, similar to a Gardiner type)
Ozhiganov - 1/2 years around $1.2M
Sparks - 1/2 year around 800K
Marner - 6/7 years at no more than $10.5M

Right now, Toronto has $67.384M committed to next season. Taking into account these suggested and very realistic numbers for extensions on guys, that puts them at $86.434M. Guys like Brown are tradable ($2.1M) and probably gone which isn't a big deal. Then they only have to move about $1M in cap space. But they have the room. & all those projections are on the high end so if they bring some of theirs cap hits down, they won't have t move as much.

Bottom line: Leafs are fine. Every good team in the league is gonna be tight against the cap. You don't win spending the minimum amount on guys. They spend more because they have good players. So chill people

Updated with Horton on LTIR. I had forgotten they were carrying his contract. Helps quote a bit, but I still maintain there will be some pieces lost

They will have to make some tough decisions but it's not like they have to blow the whole thing up. You pay Marner and maybe trade Nylander for a RD, get rid of Z and Brown. You still have a team that has Matthews, Kappy, AJ, Marner, Tavares, Hyman as your top 6 forwards (Kadri as your 3C). You still have your top 4 D of Reilly, Muzzin, Dermott, and RD for Nylander. Oh and you have Anderson in nets. Plus it's not like they traded away all their youth in the minors. But they will never be able to contend, come on.

What GM wouldn't love to have the problems the Leafs are going to have.
