TBH OTT will be looking real good in a couple years. Dorion gets ripped on a lot for the original duchene/hoffman trades (deservedly so), but he has done a real nice job of getting assets for them as rentals. They are loaded with picks and top end prospects and by the time Brannstrom is entering his prime he will be surrounded with talent

lol theres a video of Thomas Chabot, formenton and Colin white absolutely blasting the organization.. these guys are going to run when they get the chance

well obviously...

No matter what way you look at it OTT just lost their best player, which makes them even more likely to finish last, which means COL will most likely have the best odds of picking 1st

They finish last regardless. And you Avs fans should remember that finished dead last doesn't mean you get the 1st overall pick either.

the only way they can leave is if they are offersheeted, traded, or wait 6ish years for UFA

VGK wins because of Stone's extension. But it's close because getting Brannstrom is a huge get for OTT.

you do know the season isnt over yet, right? theres still a chance that OTT doesnt finish last, but that chance is now minimized with the departure of Stone, Duchene, and Dzingel. Nobody is arguing that we are guaranteed the 1st overall pick. But you cant deny that OTT is now more likely to remain in last place without Stone

Allow me for my verbage in response to why I think Ottawa won this one, k. Firstly, you need to remember Stone's contract is coming due. Period. You also have to remember McPhee told Fleury, that Fleury was the most important player and was going to be paid as such, the 7.0, right. Stone's contract is currently at 7.35. O Lindberg, although a bottom 6, might fit in pretty good as solid forward? time will tell. Brannstrom, is currently a 19 y.o. defenseman with a .5 in the AHL, Chicago Wolves. Looking at that team, he's the number 8 scorer on the team. 2 more years left on his ELC. I'm going with Ottawa on this one, considering Stone most likely will want a payraise from 7.35 which means, Fleury etc might also want pay raises. Gotcha.

How good is Brannstrom? I know he's good but it doesn't look like enough for Stone. Maybe i'm undervaluing Brannstrom though.

You're not.

Ottawa fans are just really trying to over value their deadline returns.

Vegas paid more for Patches and Stone is twice as good.

I dont think you realize how much of a difference 6 years can make.

6 years ago NSH, TBL, and CGY were all bottom 6 teams. Now they are currently 1st, 2nd, and 9th in the league.

Lindberg is likely a rental (why would he sign in ottawa?), Erik Brännström might be a good player in the NHL but has never played in it so no guarantee there and a 2nd rnd pick. Ottawa gave up a top RW in the league in his prime for a really good prospect and a 2nd rnd pick that is a 50/50 shot at making the NHL. If there is not a conditional pick on Stone resigning in Vegas then Dorion dropped the ball.

NSH and TBL both traded top 4 picks from when they were bad... OTT has also traded a likely top 4 pick. So what?

I think Vegas wins this right now because this is the kind of player they needed to get over the top. They have Fleury playing good and this Nails Down their top line. As for Ottawa they scored big time with Brannstrom!!! Great longterm trade for Sens.

I think that's what Edmonton said 15 years ago + 10 years ago + 5 years ago + 2 years ago.

Just for Ottawa to get back to where they were ... they'll need various trade returns to develop into:

Karlsson
Stone
Duchene
Hoffman
Dzingel
Turris
Brassard
Bowers
Phaneuf
Wideman
Lazar
Anderson

6 potential 1st round picks in the next 3 years
8 potential 2nd round picks in the next 3 years

Regardless of who they had before, this is one of the best prospect pools in the league

Reminds me of the Pacioretty trade for Suzuki, Tatar and 2nd. But Stone is better and younger than Pacio, and with the 8years extension, trade looks good for Vegas.

Right now Vegas is the winner because they got the best player...AND they already extended him. Time will tell who the winner is in the end. Brannstrom is a VERY good hockey player.
