Upgrade for the 4th line without sacrificing futures.

Really a lateral move. Weal has a 58% Faceoff winning percentage. Chaput has 51%. Big upgrade for one of the worse faceoff teams in the league.

Not that it's a huge deal because of the roster expansion and having the cap space, but why pull a player away from the farm team for a player who will join a 7 man rotating 4th line group at the NHL level?
Makes sense if he's moving a couple players out, but in a bubble it's just unnecessary. Is he panning for gold, ala Byron? Or is something else brewing?
Edit: I guess he could be hoping players will clear waivers as well, but he doesn't actually need to waive anyone.

He called weise up today too. I'd say he plans on moving out a couple roster players today.

Yeah, I counted him in the 7. I'm not expecting any top 6 additions, but a LHD with term in a trade that includes Alzner to offset cap, would be nice to see. He's not getting that by trading excess 4th liners, so I'm hoping he moves 1 or 2 for picks/AHL help and doesn't move any of the top 9. (Though I'd probably be okay with Drouin leaving if it was worth it)

Yeah I'm figuring he moved in weise and weal to replace a couple of depth forwards he's not too impressed with that he'll move today ie hudon and deslauriers. I dont see anything major going down today in hab land. Would be nice to see a reliable ld with term brought in for the second pairing with petry, but only at the right price which from what we've seen from dman moved thus far is unlikely.

Not sure what you mean by this. Weal is a good 4th line PKer who can win faceoffs. Chaput is the same except he can't win faceoffs as well as Weal. Montreal wins this.

Hudon/Deslaurier/Peca.

1,2, or 3 are gone by the TD today.

Yes.

And you went back 10 months to say "You sure?" on a Weal/Chaput trade? That's a bit sad.

I got bored haha.

Also, Bergevin won this trade as he does with most of these smaller trades

Okay. Well, you keep telling yourself that who "won" the Weal/Chaput trade matters.

I'd take a bunch of small victories over a bunch of small loses.
