i would want at least a second rounder for Jensen. If you cant get that then your better off trying to just resign him. He one of our best defensemen this year and can skate. The chances that 3rd round pick turn into anything is slim.

The Nyquist trade is perfect. Caps accept. Pretty equal value.

Yep, you're right. Idk why I had a 3rd.

Detroit wants a 1st for Nyquist Ken Holland has made that clear and has said he has no problem resigning him. We are also retaining salary which increases Nyquist's value. I know some people don't think salary retention is a big deal, but when a team has $37,888 it becomes a big deal. Detroit really doesn't need Burakovsky we have a few players that play a similar style.

If Washington gives Detroit a 1st for Nyquist then it doesn't matter if Burakovsky is or isn't part of the deal. But that's just an opinion!

Those are all really good points. But Burakovsky and Nyquist play almost the same style, at different points on the growth chart. So on the one hand, you need your not-real-tough skilled wing unless you can get the perfect return of a draft pick. On the other hand, you have several developing, and don't need one.

Burakovsky has one more career goal than some guy from his draft class named Mantha, who you probably haven't heard of because, as you point out, they're both just so bad and worthless, since they're outside of the top five, but if you wanted to throw him in for the Caps first, I think they'd be okay with that. smile smile smile

Holland has pretty much said that Jensen is worth a 2019 2nd round pick and Nyquist a late 1st round pick. If he doesn't get those picks. Then Jensen and Nyquist aren't moving. He's already talking to Nyquist, Howard, Nyquist and Jensens agents on possible contract extensions.

He WANTS a 1st. Doesn't mean it's going to happen. IMO Nyquist isn't worth a 1st especially a TDL that has Panarin, Stone, Duchene, and Simmonds on the block with few buyers. Burakovsky was a 1st round pick so I guess KH would still get a 1st. Fast players usually play well with other fast players so I think he'd fit in pretty well on AA's or Larkins line. Then we can always sign him in July. So we'll have Nyquist and Burakovsky. It's also looking like Washington doesn't really want him.

Very perceptive. As an outsider, I have the same impression. Rumors in comments sections range from "wrist still isn't back at 100% from injury last Spring and they want someone who's better right now" to "he has an annoying girlfriend."

Or, if as you said, Nyquist is a priority and prospects like Bura and Matha are a dime a dozen to Detroit, I would bet the Caps would trade Burakovsky and a 3rd for Mantha, to get new faces in new places.

Wow I just gave my opinion on a trade, you don't have to get angry. If you thought I was putting down Burakovsky, the Capitals or you I want to apologize because it wasn't my intention. AA and Larkin are on different lines. Thats fine if you think he isn't worth 1st and if he doesn't get traded he will resign with Detroit. There are rumors here in Detroit that Holland just wanted to test the market and that Nyquist isn't going to be traded. I'm still leaning toward he gets traded..
Burakovsky is fast, plays at both ends of the ice, likes to hit, has no problem going to the dirty areas and has decent hands. Do you agree?

Detroit has 3 players that play a similar style (I said similar style, that doesn't mean I think they are even when it comes to talent): Tyler Bertuzzi, Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm. I like Bertuzzi an would probably take him over Burakovsky. Now I take Burakovsky over Abs and Helm all day long. The problem is the last 2 are overpaid and both have NTCs if we didn't have one or both of them then I take Burakovsky in a heart beat. If you have time take a look at the Wings AHL team (https://griffinshockey.com/) with the exception of Zadina every forward that still has a shot at the NHL fits that same mold.

I never said he was worthless and he has 2 more goals than Mantha in his career but Burakovsky has played 111 more games. Burakovsky and Nyquist aren't the same going by points per game when Burakovsky will be almost 100 points below Nyquist by the time he gets to 472 games played which is where Nyquist is now.

Both Mantha and Burakovsky are slumping this year, at 1.78 points/60 and 1.45 points/60, respectively.

Mantha's best is 2.26. Burakovsky's best season is 2.40.

Career, they are about even, with Mantha at 2.05 points/60 and Burakovsky at 2.06.

Burakovsky's had a couple of broken wrists that he's come back from before his wrists were as strong as they ought to be, and I think that accounts for his slow start to this season. One on each arm, two years apart. He also started younger. So teenage Burakovsky and injured Burakovsky are as good as twenties healthy Mantha. It's a good trade, if he gets healthy next year and gets back to being better than Mantha. The Caps don't care. They want someone who isn't slumping as hard right now.

Yeah Mantha hasnt played well since he broke his hand for a second time. The first time ended his season in 2016-17 both were from fighting. Mantha was a wing on Z's and until he got hurt he was on Larkin's line. With Nyquist playing well its the first stretch in his NHL career where he hasn't been on the first line.

Which p/60 are you using? even strength? I think it's better for compairing.

I still think Mantha better and you think Burakovsky is better. Since they are in similar situations let see who gets more points from now till the end of this season. Then next season we can do p/60 even strength.

Lol I wasn't angry. Tbh I made that comment while pooping. I also meant Burakovsky would do well on either the 1st line with Bertuzzi and Larkin or on the 3rd with AA and Helm/LGD. I think Burakovsky plays a lot like AA.

Yep. Even strength, from NHL.com. If you check or unched "sum results" and rerun the search, it gives you career vs. year by year stats: http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?aggregate=1&report=skaterscoring&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20132014&seasonTo=20182019&gameType=2&position=F&playerPlayedFor=team.15&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=pointsPer60Minutes

Also incredibly close, Burakovsky's ahead by 5 primary assists, career, and by two shots on goal. They each draw 0.56 penalties per hour. Burakovsky takes .45 to Mantha's .52. Mantha's got 7more power play goals, but Burakovsky has 9 more at even strength.

They're really close. Broken hand from a fight is probably a cooler injury than broken wrist from getting slashed, though.

Burakovsky auditions on top lines for like, five or ten games a year. He plays all over, but it's mostly third line, except the year he was 21 and he played 2nd line with Johansson and rookie Kuznetsov. That's the year he got 17 even strength goals (one more than Mantha's career high, equal to AA's) and 2.40 points/60. So neither of them is great on their own, but with good players, they can each keep up, and help keep the offense going.

I'm pretty sure that Burakovsky will get more points the rest of this year, because after the trade deadline, he's going to play 1R somewhere, with regular top unit power play time, for the first time in his career. But just for fun, on February 9th, Mantha's got 12 goals, 8 assists, and 20 points. Burakovsky's got 7, 6, 13. Good luck!

Okay. It's early, but Burakovsky's in the lead, three to one, and closing the gap on the season, down to five points, 21 to 16. Since you want to count even strength points, Mantha currently leads that race 16 to 15, on February the 14th.

Did you watch any of the games this weekend? Just about minute into The Wings v Flyers on Sunday Mantha gets into a fight with Simmons thank god Simmons can fight its all Mantha could do to hold him off I don't even think he got a punch off and it when he throws punches he breaks bones in his hands. The worst about breaking bones in your hands and fingers they are like chicken bones they don't break clean so when they heal it's never the same.
