You are unreasonably low on Dermott...

Nawh. I see Dermott as a #5 defensemen right now. Is he going to get better? without a doubt, i'm just being realistic.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. A normal #5 defensemen gets PK time. Also according to DailyFaceoff, he plays on the 3rd pairing soo

Pairs do not matter. Here let me link this to you: https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2019/2/2/18195816/travis-dermott-toronto-maple-leafs-glimpsed-the-top-four-will-he-get-there-again
Babs plays the Leafs LD more then their respective RD, and he doesn't give young developing players PK time.

TL;DR
Player----------- GP- TOI -----TOI/GP
Morgan Rielly -6- 122.65- 20.44
Jake Gardiner -4- 75.38- 18.85
Ron Hainsey --6- 103.92- 17.32
Travis Dermott -6- 100.43- 16.74
------------------------------------------------------------Top 4 line
Nikita Zaitsev -6- 100.17- 16.69
Martin Marincin -2- 28.67- 14.33
Igor Ozhiganov -6- 75.45- 12.58

Obviously this was before Muzzin (Hainsey has lost the most time due to Muzz), but the point is he is already a top 4 Dman. He is like the Leafs Mete, and might be better right now (how that looks long term is anyones guess but...)

A quote:
The usage change when the score was close shows an attempt to get Morgan Rielly in the offensive zone more, sit Marincin and Ozhiganov, but very surprisingly, Dermott’s usage got more defensively oriented.

What kind of time is he getting since Muzzin?

Similar, Hainsey has been dropped down the most, mostly (almost all) 5v5 time for mitz.
Kids good and will be a legit top 4 guy for next year. He also plays RD...

For all the criticism that Zaitsev and Hainsey get (IMO unjustly), those two guys played most of the PK minutes. Muzzin is a welcome big bodied PK addition.

Haha

Rielly = Weber
Muzzin < Petry
Gardiner > Mete
Dermott = Benn

Then you list two AHL defensemen so....

Juulsen is in the AHL .... and Liljegren / Sandin are both better prospects than Mete / Juulsen.

Mete is not even comparable to Dermott ATM.

Weber's age / contracts make him incomparable to Rielly (he also doesn't have a point per game).

When talking about the skill of defensemen, Offense isn't the only thing factored in.

No one said anything about offense.

They are still better.

Wait another 5 years when Matthews is on the last few months of his contract. Should the the Leafs trade him at TDL, or they going to resign him . 10 pages? Add a zero or two to that ten.

None of the teams that can fit him are Toronto. Sure, a team like Detroit or Dallas could try to offer sheet him, but then you're stuck playing in Detroit or Dallas for the next 5 years instead of playing for the odds on favorite to win the Cup over that timeframe. All of the teams on your list are many years away from being a Cup contender.

Marner has said that he doesn't want to negotiate during the season. However, it's very unlikely that he is still unsigned by July 1, meaning other teams won't have the option to offer him a contract. If it does get to July 1 and a deal isn't done and he signs an offer sheet that doesn't result in four 1sts, Toronto will match it immediately. However, if it's more than that, Dubas will take the 1st round picks and let Marner walk.

Once again, 2019-20 Toronto has $7.5M in cap space with 8 forwards, 5 defensemen and 1 goalie signed. An offer sheet of $10M x5 to Marner ONLY returns two firsts, a second and a third. Washington, in theory, could make enough room and offer sheet Marner, forcing a match or take low end Caps picks.

Toronto had over 30million in useable space before the am signing and the Muzzin deal, so wtf are you talking about?

Random, you should know that Leafs always have less cap with other teams. As Bull said, it's 7.6m in cap space, he just failed to mention the Horton LTIR, so that's 12..8m an increase of the cap to 83m makes 18.3m with 9 players to sign. Of course the Leafs can sign all their RFA and fill there roster spots and be over the cap. Then they have the rest of the summer and till October to make trades to get cap compliant. I still say that the Leafs are going to be 7m over the cap (if Marleau doesn't retire) but all it takes is one maybe two trades to be under 83m

How?
No way Leafs management would let Matthews walk for free if he wants to go to free agency.

When you consider Marner probably deserves more money than Matthews, this contract is ridiculous.

Well let's just say it's pretty ironic that you are saying *I* am a dumbass
