Description
Rumor has it the Habs are interested in acquiring Maatta. They were linked with Muzzin and have been looking for a LHD for some time now.
The Penguins just dealt Oleksiak, but if they believe JJ, Pettersson or Riikola can hop into the top 4 and play with Schultz, trading him can be an option.
The Pens would want a dman back in my opinion, so Benn is the logical option.
As for a forward, I can see the Pens looking at Danault, Gallagher, Tatar, Lehkonen and Armia. In my opinion, the first two are off the table.
Tatar would be a great top 6 addition, but I don't know if MTL is ready to move him.
Lehkonen is a young forward with loads of potential, but Im not sure if he's ready to play in the top 6.
Armia is an ideal depth player and can help the bottom 6 and special teams a lot.

I could see this working, but Montreal isn't retaining on Tatar. Pittsburgh would have to give up more IMO

Maybe they don't retain then.. just a 2 for 2 swap between the two teams. Why/what do you think Pens add?

Tartar would be great! but I don't see them giving up Simon that easily. He makes such smart decisions and they have the flexibility to play him on any line, so unless they were getting Danault or Lehkonen I think it would involve a pick or something else.

I am also skeptical of unloading another defensemen after riding Oleksiak. I just hate the idea of playing Jack Johnson in a top4 situation. Pettersson would be an incredible compliment to Schultz when he returns, but he is also a huge benefit to JJ on the bottom pairing. Anything that shelters JJ into playing ~11 minutes a night is something I am in favor of.

I do like Tartar and if the conversation is there, though

JJ was brought in to play top 4 minutes, but I'm fine with Pettersson playing with Schultz and having Benn/Riikola play with JJ. As for Simon, he would essentially have to play 4th line minutes, and I don't know if its worth it, but I can see them keeping him. Maybe Simon and Sheahan swap, and Pens add a pick. I do think Tatar would make that top 6 a lot better.

Would they ever consider giving us Max Domi? I know 66 wanted him because he is tight with his dad. We'd have to sweeten to pot. Maatta plus picks.

Hard to see it. Very doubtful.

Interesting concept. My only gripe would be that i think Tatar may be worth more if traded for prospects and picks. Maatta may only be 24 but he's getting pretty close to what you can expect from him. That isn't a top line defenseman. Its probably not bad value swapped but if it was me it might be more of a plan B type trade.

If its up to me, Tatar goes to the highest bidder of picks and prospects. (If we are to trade him now)

If they want someone now whose still young and can provide instant minutes, this could work value wise.

That makes sense. If anything, I think Pens try going for one of the other forwards!
