Cogliano might be sligtly better now, but Shore is much younger, so it is tough to say who wins

The Ducks absolutely smoked the stars in this one. I guess that's what desperation does to GMs.

Stars trying to win now, they are right on cusp of playoffs or not, but the conference overall is weak so if they improve just a bit they can get in pretty easily.

I mean... Shore has had a rough past 30 days, but Cogliano has had a rough season. And Shore is much younger. There's absolutely no reason why DAL should've done this..

I think it's pretty fair. Cogliano is a bit better IMO but Shore is 7 years younger.

Feel like Dallas traded for Cogliano for his locker room presence more than anything. "Team Culture" move, etc.

Man, Cogliano is as durable as they can get but Devin Shore is much younger. The Stars lack elite skill, besides Radulov, Seguin and Benn. Also, not enough good forward prospects. This was a good hockey trade for the Ducks, even if they don't make the playoffs. Cogliano was never an elite forward, only a durable one who has decent speed. Years of bad drafting caught up to the Stars. Sure, they have good D-men, a good goaltender and a great line, but they never made that next step.

Ducks get a younger player with more upside. This is a win for Anaheim.

Ducks get younger and save a million in cap space for a year and a half. The Stars get the better current player and pay million more in terms of cap hit. The Ducks get a player with some upside while the Stars get a veteran with speed to burn and defensive acumen. How each team reacts and deploys the players will dictate the winner.

ANA GM Bob Murray is trying to give Randy Carlyle a stay of execution here. The next move will be a coaching change. But I'm concerned that this trade will not do enough to move the needle. Neither Shore nor Cogliano is much of an impact player on the ice. I doubt ANA's or DAL's offensive numbers will see much of a boost. At the end of the day, both teams are too inconsistent and have a lot of wasted talent.
