This year in free agency the islanders lose all of eberle, lee, and Nelson. That is loosing 3 of their top 4 players. Eberle could be signed to a team like Montreal for 7,250,000. Lee could be signed for 6,750,000 and Nelson could get signed to either 5 or 6 million. Their is now all of this cap space and the islanders decide that they will sign bobrovsky for 10.5 by 7. Now we hit 2019-2020 and the islanders now only have Matt barzel and bobrovsky become the faces of the franchise. Barzel goes on a tear with being the face of the franchise and taking most of the shots. Since the islanders would have bobrovsky in goal they barely miss the playoffs meaning that they don’t have a top 10 pick. This new season means that they have to resign barzel and devils decide that they want a new player playing alongside hall and nico. The devils trade palmerri for prospects and a first and second meaning they have plenty of space for barzel and hall. Since the islanders have a goalie at 10.5 mil and the devils put down and an offer sheet for 12 million which the islanders can’t match. Now barzel is moving to nj and the islanders have an aging goalie making 10.5 mil a year and have lost their top 4 offenseman. Just imagine how bad the islanders would be without their best players.
Please tell me how you think about this

IMO, the logic above is all wrong. UFAs aren't yours to lose. If Eberle, Lee, and Nelson leave for the money you suggest 20m, then it's up to the Isles management to find 20m in good replacements.
I certainly wouldn't want to win a bidding for Lee or Nelson. They are replaceable. Don't know why you mention Bobrovsky. Lehner has been better and you might want to keep him as to to overspending on a big name UFA. Actually there are "lots" of UFA goalies available, which might be better value than Bob.

Similarly folks have discussed how devastating it would be for the Leafs to lose Matthew to any offer sheet. Let's say an absurd offer sheet comes in for 15.5m which the Leafs refuse to match. So the Leafs get four first rounders in compensation. But they also have 12m in cap space that they have allotted for Matthew to spend. So it might be possible that Leafs get Karlsson for 12m...and they'll see how those four first rounders develop.

There is also th fact that this team that offers an offer sheet expects to be making a run for the cup immediately and they feel that this player would be the missing piece.

There would be few in any Cup contenders who would have the cap to just insert an 15m player in the lineup. They might have to trade anyway an important piece or two for inexpensive futures to fit Matthews in, which sorta goes against the reason to sign in the first place...for an immediate Cup run. Gee when folks do scenario where Arizona signs Matthews, Arizona could cap strapped as soon as 2020/21 with their own RFAs to sign. Yea it's a real difficult balance to make a "perfect" team in a cap league.

The Leafs might run in cap issues this summer, not because they have much "bad money" but because of the emergence of Marner from 6.5m to 9.5m player and Kapanen and Johnsson likely will be more expensive too than expected. So it's a problem of having "too many good players" to fit under the cap. Then it look like some one will have to be traded.

First of all, offer sheets don't happen anymore. Also, they'll almost definitely sign Lee. So, i think that means they're not going to sign Bobrovsky.
