This deal really fills the needs of both teams.

Tom Pyatt gives Vancouver some help on depth. McKenna can be the Canucks back up unless Richard Bachman is called up.

Nilsson gives Ottawa a much needed goalie especially after Anderson injury. Archibald is solid AHL player.

I am surprised that Ottawa didn't trade Condon to Vancouver instead of McKenna. I still have plenty of faith left in Condon.

Would give the advantage to Vancouver simply because of that 6th round pick.
Regardless, it's really a nothing trade.

Can we add an option of: "both lose trade" to the poll?

In all seriousness though, I think Vancouver wins solely because it makes more sense for them. Nilsson doesn't fix Ottawa's goaltending, nor does he come close to making it adequate, while losing Nilsson allows Vancouver to give Demko that roll as backup. Vancouver is also getting the 6th so I suppose that is somewhat relevant. Otherwise, all the other pieces involved are irrelevant.

Canucks win this, they get a pick and cap space. Not a lot of space but hey, if you can get even a little space from a nothing trade, it's a win.

Lots of people saying Van won this trade. But Ottawa is desperate for a goalie right now so I just don't see it. Looks like a wash to me.

On paper, Nilsson is horrible. So if Ottawa was looking for help in the goalie department, this aint it.

Even trade. Swapping sets of tweeners on expiring contracts. Vancouver picks up the 6th round lotto pick to keep the fans more invested late in the draft.

VAN also picks up some cap space and Nilsson has been pretty terrible lately. And don't expect his numbers to improve that much w/ OTT, who is one of the worst defensive teams in the league. The 6th rounder probably gives VAN the slight edge at this point.

I agree 100%. And OTT is probably worse defensively than VAN.

This is how I see the trade:

Darren Archibald for Tom Pyatt ---- Fair Deal

Anders Nilsson for Mike McKenna and a 6th round pick ---- Win for Ottawa

Ottawa wins

these comments are pretty funny to look back on as that 6th might turn into a NHLer

Unless it's a scenario where a team makes a trade on draft day go target a specific prospect, you can't really judge a trade by what the prospect selected with the pick became. A draft pick is just an x percent chance at getting an NHL player. That's what they traded for.
