Fair deal at the moment. Could be huge for Chicago if Strome finally clicks though.

Playing with Kane could get a lot of people to click. I like the gamble from Stan tbh.

If Strome doesn’t pay off then, big win for Coyotes! As is Coyotes are looking good even though Perlini is an awesome player too.

2 struggling young players for a better one. AZ wins now imo, but it's a gamble that CHI may win. Time will tell.

I like this deal value wise for Chicago. Doesn’t really address the need. Rather see Schmaltz for a defenseman. Schmaltz is gunna be paid 4-5 mil and the hawks clearly don’t want to pay it. He doesn’t shoot. I think strome could develop better in the hawks org , and perlini still has upside.

Potential is there for a well rounded top 6. Not this year but down the road... all about the word potential

The biggest thing for the Coyotes is that they are getting a sure thing with Schmaltz. Neither Perlini or Strome has come close to living up to expectations, and I don’t think they ever would in Arizona. If one or both of them breaks out in a Chicago, then they’re a winner. But I think we have to look at this as the Coyotes getting an upgrade over what they have, because neither player was going to thrive with them.

It’s pretty disappointing to see a third overall pick being dealt like this, though. Especially given the fact that they passed on guys like Marner and Provorov. It’s tough to talk about guys like Rantanen, Meier, Barzal, Boeser, Chabot, Aho, etc. with this given that they weren’t really in the Yotes range at 3. But still disappointing to see them come out of a stacked draft class essentially empty handed (outside of Christian Fischer).

Arizona - always good to buy low on a slumping player , Schmaltz a 1st line RW or 2nd line C... Good for you
Chicago - Just entered the Jack Hughes sweepstakes - a good 4th line LWer and a slow 4th line Center ... yikes

I think it’s a win for Chicago for two reasons. They need to get younger, yes they had to trade a young player but got two in return and cap space. I believe they will be able to get both players signed cheap and reap the benefits later. Arizona certainly doesn’t lose the deal though either.

Short-term Arizona looks to have won the trade, but long-term this may be a Chicago scheme plan Perlini and Strome fit well in and maybe Schmaltz doesn't. Nothing much to say this a pretty fair deal.

Strome is soft. He's a a defensive liability and he doesn't go to the front of the net to score. He'll never come close to his potential...just like Ryan Strome who was also a top 5 overall pick. I don't really see this trade as being very consequential for either team. Let's see how Schmaltz does w/o Kane. My guess is...even worse than he did this year so far.

The hardest thing for a young player is being consistent. They have one good year and then they are gone. It's why a player like pasta couldn't really cash in on his deal. He had one year.
Right now Schmaltz has 2 goals in 20+ games. He had over 20 last year. Was it a fluke? The real kicker is he's in a contract year. You would think of all the years to play hard this is it no?

very risky for CHI. if Strome doesn't work out.... Confused They just lost a sure bet #2 Center. Come to think of it, even if Strome works out, will he be that much better that what Schmaltz already is???

IDK, I think Arizona wins this one.

I like Schmaltz and even he was pretty mediocre away from Kane. He gives up on a play if there will be any form of contact, is a deer in headlights not paired with Kane and has no idea who to pass too since he never shoots. His speed and defense are great but offensively he left a lot to be desired you are also completely out of touch calling Perlini and Strome 4th liners

I think at face value it is a fairly even trade. On the other hand with Domi posting solid numbers in MTL without a real upgrade in talent around him I have to think that Strome and Perlini may see a similar breakthrough. On the flip side Schmaltz will see more opportunities in the desert so at this point its a coin flip.

The whole deal revolves around wether Strome becomes a 3rd overall caliber player or if he doesn’t.

Fair trade. Schmaltz and Strome have similar upside IMO, and Perlini is added in simply to account for the current difference between the already mentioned players. I’d have to give the edge to Chicago but this is a good trade for both teams. Still a big risk for the Blackhawks.

As a Hawks fan, I'm ok with the deal. Not excited. Not upset. These are the hard decisions that real GMs need to make. Schmaltz is a very good complimentary player. He's Fast, Good Defensively, can really help out with Zone Entry. I personally believe that he wanted #2C money. For anyone saying he's a #2C...you haven't watched him play. He's NOT and never will be. If you can't center a line with Patrick Kane in his prime...You're not a center. Schmaltz can't win a faceoff for his life and isn't physical at all. As a winger he'll be afforded the ability to dance around and supply the puck to others. He has good vision. As for why the deal happened...I think Cap Space available combined with Schmaltz's Salary Expectations and Bowman's offseason desires made a mixture of issues. I'm sure Schmaltz and his agent wanted Centerman money. That's not in the ballpark for what he's worth. a 2-3 year $3.5M - $4M bridge to find out whether he's a center or winger sounds right to me, but I can't imagine he'd accept that.

Arizona wins this. They got a player who's good now for a center who would've been star if he was drafted 10-15 years ago and a decent winger with mid-six potential.

So you're essentially saying he's the bargain bin version of Marner?
