It's not really worth trying to trade Nino right now. His return won't be much with his play. Holding on to him and hoping he turns it around is worth more than the return in trade.

He may just need a change of scenery, but Nino's contract might scare some potential suiters. Would MN consider retaining?

Nino's been bad this year, but not that bad.

Besides it's Chia. He would actually not lose the Eberle trade if that happened. Ebs for Strome, then Strome for Spooner, then Spooner + 3rd for Nino.

I'm not sure what you mean by "not that bad". Not bad enough to consider salary retention? Or not bad enough to trade for Spooner+?

In any case, Nino only does one thing: score goals. He scored just 18 last year (not worth $5.25M) and is on pace for just 7 this year. I'm not sure what you are expecting to get for him, but prepare to be disappointed.

Spooner scored 0.70 p/gp last year, Niederreiter 0.51. And obviously Niederreiter doesn't fit into the Wild's system, it would benefit MN to acquire someone who does.

Nino played on a bum wheel for almost the whole year last season. Docs thought it was bruised but it was broken, he was still on pace for 23 goals AND he had a broken leg. He's had a rough start to the year but he has been heating up and just had a 2 point night. This drought he had to start the year was only the 4th longest in his career, he's an incredibly streaky player but he has always found a way to score 20+ goals (or at least be on pace for that). How does a guy who has 3 consecutive 20+ goal seasons (and again would have had 4) not fit into the Wild's system?

I guess getting injured and missing 19 games has nothing to do with Nino's drop in stats last year. He seemed to fit pretty well until Jan: 13g in 31 games (35g pace); and the year before with the same system 25g/32a. The system hasn't changed, except the awful PP they are trying to run right now. He's stuck in his own head right now more than anything. It's why I say any trade for him would be taking a loss.

You're right about him being a goal scorer, and like most goal scorers he's streaky hot and cold. He'll get hot again and the trade talk will be forgotten. I really don't see him not hitting the 20g mark again this year if he stays healthy. He's probably slightly overpayed for his production, but he's still a possession monster.

Spooner is useless to MN: not physical, can't play defense, and isn't a high intensity player. He doesn't fit anywhere in the lineup that's already LHS heavy.

I think its worth noting that he's competing for,ice time with zucker, parise, and granlund. On a different team where they have an obvious dominant 1c and 2c I think Nino does really well. Koivu and Staal get their points but they dont have the legs to drive play. Put Nino on a team with some good center depth... Heaven forbid Colorado and he would be pushing 30 goals

You'd better ask the coach that. He's the one that put Nino on the 4th line.

And look what happened, he scored a goal and got an assist. It was only 1 game on the 4th, let's cool the knee-jerk reactions. He's just in a slump. Like I said this drought to start the year was only his 4th longest. He has found his game and based on his past all indications point to him scoring 20 this year (barring any season ending injury).
