Description
The Montreal Canadiens need a left-handed defensman. The best one that is probably available is Jake Muzzin. However, L.A. wants a good return for their 2nd best defensman. So, the 2nd round pick is a must, especially if you want a defensman of his caliber. Next is Jacob Olofsson, the best second-tier prospect the organisation has, and one which will be interesting because he has decent size and is a pretty complete prospect. Suzuki, Poehling and Brook are protected because they are the best prospects this team has. Finally, Charles Hudon, a fast winger who has had his fair share of issues this year in Montreal, is the final piece in the deal. His lack of size might turn off L.A., but his speed and no-quit attitude more than make up for it.
P.S. I made a complementary deal which includes Jordie Benn and Nikita Scherbak to Columbus for yet another Finnish forward and another defensman for the Laval Rocket. Alzner's contract is buried in the minors until he shows he can turn his carrer around (Andrew MacDonald).

I wouldn't mind getting Muzzin. Like you said however, he's their 2nd best Dman. I think it would cost more Hudon and two 2nd's (would still consider Olofsson a 2nd) to get him. I still personally feel that that's a lot of assets, but their not that substantial considering your trying to get a top pairing Dman.
LA would probably want a winger, but probably a more established young guy they know can play in the top 6 (Hudon isn't that). Wouldn't surprise me that Lehkonen would have to be in the deal for Muzzin. Don't know if I'd be willing to do that.

Lehkonen is not a winger they want to trade. He is part of the ''finnish squad'' that helps Kotkaniemi, which also includes Joel Armia and Antti Niemi. Also, don't forget that Hudon had a 30 point rookie season. He is just not in the right place right now. Lehkonen is. He has top 6 potential, but the finnish squad, Shaw and Byron are players MB do not want to trade. Shaw is really solid with Drouin and Domi, and Byron is the mentor. Pretty similar wingers, but one is more defensively responsible (Lehkonen) and the other takes more risks, for better or worse (Hudon). Hudon is a fast skater. L.A. doesn't have enough of these. That's why they traded for Carl Hagelin.

Kings traded for Hagelin because they needed to get Pearson's contract off the books for the next two years to fit Doughty's extension. Sure, they wanted a roster shakeup, but Hagelin was just the return asset who will make the cap and roster slots work. It doesn't hurt that he's fast, but that's not why they got him. If the Kings don't have a miraculous turnaround this season, he's going to be moved again at the deadline for futures. He won't be back next season.

I'm not very familiar with Olofsson, but he appears to be a middle-six type center, and the Kings have an abundance of those with Kempe, Amadio, Anderson-Dolan, and Vilardi all in their early 20s and ready to join the club. Kupari is also playing lights out right now in Liiga, and will be NHL ready in a couple seasons. They have a prospect shortage at winger and mobile defense (preferably right-handed), so if they're looking to add to the prospect pipeline, that's where it would be.

The Kings don't want a winger with "issues," especially not in exchange for their #2 defenseman.

Your offer isn't unfair, but my guess is that the Kings say no because it doesn't improve their team.

I like both ideas. They might not be 100% what I would suggest, but they are both certainly reasonable.

Maybe Lehkonen for Muzzin or Hudon for Martinez.

Maybe Lehkonen for Muzzin or Hudon for Martinez.

Hudon package for Martinez I'd be interested in doing!

From an LA perspective Lehkonen in a Muzzin deal definitely gets the conversation going imo. As a Habs fan I really don't want to move Lehkonen though. He is the Habs best defensive forward and would probably have 10 goals already this season with all the high-danger chances he's had, he just hasn't been able to bury them (shooting% 6.9...)

And he brings tremendous work ethic and is one of their best penalty killers.
As for Muzzin, he is a much more interesting defender for the Canadiens than Martinez. Martinez is very inconsistent in terms of defensive play, and he is already 31. However, you don't want to break the chemistry that this Montreal team has right now. Marc Bergevin has less available pieces than expected because this 2018-19 edition is his Montreal team, from top to bottom. Only Gallagher and Price are remaining from the 2012 squad.
