I thought if they played him with McDavid he could find d success seeing as Spooner is actually a good skater. I'm not sure if that ever happened though.

Well he's not an offensive player, so what else can he be? It's either be an offensive, two way, or defensive player. He had 5 points in his last 35 games so I would expect him to shut down other teams offense.

Uhhhhh Spooner is far from a shutdown guy. He actually is awful defensively, which is part of the reason he never stuck at center. I had Spooner being out of the NHL in 3 years, but it maybe sooner lol

Well if he can't put up points and can't defend than I agree with you that he will be out of the NHL

He can put up points in bunches, but he can't handle a two-way game. If he's asked to play any defense it kills his offense. Just another bad draft pick by current Oilers GM PC lol

If you said he can put up points in bunches 5 years ago, I would agree with you, but he has 5 points in 34 games this season, those are numbers that will lead to him not being signed next season.

I give Spooner 3 more years in the NHL before he's done. He'll finish out this contract, someone will take a gamble on him for a year and when he still doesn't pan out, that'll be it for him. Like I said when Boston traded him, he's a good 3rd line wing/PP specialist that doesn't know what the defensive zone is. He's a streaky winger that will look like a P/GP player and then go ice cold for a quarter of the season.

I don't get everyone making comments about how Chiarelli is so bad because of THIS trade.
Eberle for Strome is worse than Eberle for Spooner. Obviously neither player is as good as Eberle but that trade is over and done with.
Strome for Spooner at the same salary is a GOOD trade for EDM.
