I'm not an expert on NHL contracts, but my guess is that if you had a modified no-trade clause that allowed you to choose 10 teams to which you couldn't block a trade and you only submitted a list of 5 teams it would probably negate the clause entirely.

I'm Canadian so that may influence my opinion.

People often don’t understand this aspect of the NHL. I love this thread u created. NHL players are human beings. A city like Los Angeles or Toronto has a lot more appeal than cities like Winnipeg or St Louis. A major factor in players decisions is definitely the city they’ll be living in. It’s not talked about enough

Arizona might be on most players list of "Don't trade me". But when Seattle joins the league, Arizona moves to the Central. What terrible travel. Dallas and Denver are the closest teams and as far east as Nashville and north to Winnipeg. Brutal travel for Arizona
