I just put that in his own words that he probably thinks Nylander is not good.. Johnson is great player!
Comparing simple points stats, Nylander is a career 0.73 PPG and 0.75 last year.
It's better than Johnson for sure, but not by some giant margin. Johnson is a career 0.67 PPG and 0.62 last season, and 0.77 this season thus far.
For a comparable of Nazem Kadri who every Leafs fan thinks is the best 3C in the league (I live in the GTA, all they have done is praise him and the Leafs centre depth this offseason)
Kadri is a career 0.64PPG, 0.69 last season, and 0.57 this year. His numbers and Johnsons are very comparable. Lots of people like to praise Kadri's defensive side of his game and I'll give him credit. He is better at faceoffs than Johnson. a comparable of 50.1% to Johnson's 48.7%, but many of Johnson's are taken shorthanded in the defensive zone compared to Kadri who has only taken shorthanded 2 over the past couple of seasons. Also to use an advanced statistic, of SAT percentages since they both get a lot of defensive weight on their lines, Johnsons SAT Percentages are 49.30% which is nothing great, but Kadri's is 48.95%, there's not a glaring difference between these 2.
Overall what I'm saying is If you think Johnson isn't a 3C, then Kadri wouldn't be either. The margin between these 2 is very very slim if anything.
So no it isn't a fair offer. I'd rather keep a 3C, Top Prospect, and 2nd Rounder over someone who is at best a top winger or 2C.
