Solid deal. He can prove himself with this deal, he can show if he can keep up the production of the 2nd half of last season and at the end of the contract, he's still a RFA. Buffalo really seems to be on the way up. Hopefully at least, they have some nice players there.

Good idea for all sides to give him a bridge contract. I don't think he's reached his full potential yet.

That being said, I think BUF blew this opportunity to lock him up for at ;least 5 years at a very reasonable rate. If he puts up 60+ points per season now, and he probably will while playing w/ Eichel, his next contract will be much more costly for BUF. He probably would've signed for 5 years at around the same amount.

Reinhart is widely considered one of the NHL's top breakout candidates for this season. He could very well finish the year w/ 30+G and 70+ points, especially playing on a line w/ Eichel and Skinner. BUF should've signed him long term. The talent is there and he's only 22. I expect a monster season from Reinhart and the rest of the Sabres top line.

I really have no idea which one is better, Max Domi or Reinhart. What's interesting is that Domi has better career stats than Reinhart but somehow he got roughly half a million less per year.

Agreed. I figured for a 2 year deal he would have got 4.2 million a year

There's no doubt that not only is Reinhart a better player, he also has scored more in the NHL. Without even diving into real stats.

Yes a bridge deal. I think they should have signed him long term for more money but who can blame them for wanting him to prove he’s worth a long term deal

He would not sign this salary for 5 years. Sam put up 50 points last year.... comparable to E.Kane's year (7 million).... this bridge deal is just a lead up to an Evander Kane contract that will be offered in front of Sam in 2020.

REALLY? LOL.. the player isn't going to ask for a short term deal worth less money than he feels he's worth, that's why lol.

As a young player I think you have to look at the security of a long term contract, even if you believe that you'll be worth more in the near future. Look at the contract that Mark Scheifele signed: 8 years at $6.125M. Clearly he'd be worth at least $9M today. He was probably the MVP of the playoffs through the first 2 rounds last season. Similar deal w/ Gaudreau in CGY: He agreed to a six year deal for less money when he could've had a bridge deal. Had BUF offered 6 years @ $3.65M AAV I'm sure he'd have taken it in a heartbeat.

Exactly. He'd have taken 5-6 years at the same AAV in a heartbeat. The security of a long term contract should not be overlooked. That being said, I still think BUF will regret this deal 2 years from now. Reinhart is in a prime situation to put up 60-70 points this season playing on a line w/ Eichel and Skinner and w/ Dahlin on the back end. Their PP could also be top 10 in the league. Let's ask George McPhee a year from now if he wished he'd locked up Wild Bill for 8 years at $6M AAV; He's gonna end up paying him $8M.

you made as much sense as the guy I was responding to. WTH does injury have to do with anything? He plays 2 years or 10 he could get her no matter what his contract is.

I don't think so. They would have to offer closer to 5mil to get that deal done. You're right about security and all, but he's young and healthy; no reason to settle for a low ball offer like that when he is likely to be worth 2-3 times as much in a couple of seasons.

Yeah and if they sign him to 5 years for 6-7 mil and he doesn't score.. they've messed themselves up too and his value goes down anyway.

So what you're saying is that players never bet on themselves? You don't think that it crossed Reinhart's mind that playing with Eichel and Skinner could help him have a career year(s) and make even more money?

Well ultimately that is what he chose yes because it was that or keeping holding out and have things get bad and the team trade him. He was holding out because he wanted the long term deal though obviously but yes if you wanna play the semantics game, yes ultimately he chose the contract.
