BOS likely says no. Even tho it gets a bad contract off our hands, were loaded on the left side. almost too many players especially if you include the farm system. Id say the only way it would happen would be if you replaced carlo with krug and took off the retention on backes because personally I think krug holds a lot more trade value as of right now, and i still don't know if that would happen from either BOS or MIN sides.

This trade would definitely mean Krug is gone. I think Brodin is a perfect replacement for Chara when he decides to retire. Losing Backes means that you guys can re-sign all of your RFA's, which is a big win for Boston since you have a lot of promising young players.

I like it, I actually forgot about this BOS trade. Backes gives us an option at center if we have an injury and he's a fine 3rd liner, his cap does suck though. Spurgeon could definitely be shipped for some forwards, perhaps to Toronto? I'd love Nylander, but there's no way Toronto gives him up for Spurgeon. I'd think you could definitely find a team that needs a RHD and would be willing to give up some forwards.

I remember we discussed this kind of trade before on either of mine or your mocks. I think I included Krug and you included carlo lol. But either way I just can’t see bos letting go of carlo. I think they’re very high on him but who really knows what’s going on. All just speculation

So I was looking at this more in-depth and I'm not sure we could make the Boston trade. Carlo, Fleury, and Eriksson Ek would all be RFA's next offseason, which is a huge problem with the big UFA Eric Staal... I think Eriksson Ek gets in the neighborhood of $3-4M depending on his offensive numbers next seasons, Fleury likely around $4M and the same for Carlo. To be conservative, that's $12M of our $17M in space, but we'd still need 5 more depth players since Stalock, Prosser, Fehr, Read, and Hendricks are all UFA's. To average all of those, we'd need an extra $730K per player, or $3.65M total, which we wouldn't have if we re-signed Staal.

So if this happened there's a couple scenarios:
1. Staal is traded at the deadline. Honestly I like this option best since I don't see us being serious contenders next season. We should move him for a 1st and some extra goodies.
2. He re-signs for cheap. Probably not happening.
3. We let him walk in FA next season. This is a bad idea.

This is very true. They DO have McAvoy, McQuaid, and Miller, but I totally get why they wouldn't want to move Carlo.

Just curious, if the Wild are not contenders, why do both Fleury and Carlo each get $4M cap hits? I know you have them as top 4 dmen but it seems a tad bit high.

I was just trying to be conservative with my estimates. The hope would be signing them to long term deals with a lower cap hit (if they played well of course).

Did you trade Spurgeon because if they Trade Spurgeon for like picks or prospects at the deadline we’re getting rid of 5,187,500 of cap space for next year and then we’re they Trade Staal Also at the deadline so that means Kunin Comes up to play Center

So do next years Center Core it would look like this
Joel Eriksson Ex
Luke Kunin or Mikko Koivu
Luke Kunin Or Mikko Koivu
Aleksi Saarela/Greenway

I’m also assuming here Paul Fenton invests into a Backup Goalie and then just signs some depth players

Heck of a run-on sentence! Good job!
