I know I might take **** for this but I think this signing is fine, I've watched alot of "Day with the cup" and generic shows on the caps run and he is revered by his teammates . He is also a crazed warrior with what he played through on the cup run. We all have our careers and i think people can relate when there are people at work who are great to work with. We have to remember that these are human beings and the caps struggled mightily to "get over the hump" and guys like this made it possible. So as long as he is not played out of his depth and is 6/7 dman I think this is fine.

Well the Grubauer trade is a win for Washington. They save 4.5M in cap space while keeping Orpik and getting a 2nd. Great signing. He was very good in the playoffs.

This is so weird.
Caps make Colorado take him since they want Grubauer, thus clearing his cap hit so they can re-sign Carlson.
Colorado buys Orpik out since he doesn't fit in with their plans, putting them on the hook for the last year of his contract. But it's only one year so they figure they can take it.
And then Washington signs him back at a reasonable $1 mil.
So I guess everyone involved wins.

This scenario was predicted right after he was placed on waivers

But seriously, he was an abomination in the regular season. If he plays over Bowey this year I’m going to lose it.

I guess my point is idk why people (caps fans none the less) can't appreciate what Orpik did for the team. He killed himself for the team. And like it or not I think other players feed of that. Would I like a squad of 6 young puck moving defensemen? Sure, but there are many things that go into winning in this league and Orpik provides the culture needed while still being a passable 6th/7th defensemen. Now with that said I also think he should not be blocking young guys, all in all though? helluva guy to have around.

Even as a 7th dman, WSH could do much better than Orpik. He'd be much better served as a coach at this stage in his career.
