Marleau is not a Leaf because their fans think he will waive his NMC to help the team and go to a team with cap space. They have an idea he will help the Leafs, and screw himself out of a cup. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, SO PLEASE STOP!!!?
Let's be honest this team will be in cap hell for years unless they trade at least one if not two of their young stars. And please stop trading Martin nobody wants his contract for a player to sit in the press box.

Subscribing to the theory that there's a wink-wink deal in place where he'd retire in the third year. If so, the Leafs would pay him his huge bonus next offseason, then trade him to a team looking to reach the cap floor. Wishful thinking for now of course, but IF true then it's a fun little way to armchair-gm a way to get some RHD. grin

Martin can easily be dealt this offseason. See Reaves.

Damn, called all the deadweight out back in 2018 offseason.

What's crazy is a couple opposing fans thought this was too much of a dream-case scenario, and yet somehow Dubas did an infinitely better job at upgrading the blue-line (Muzzin+Barrie+Ceci at 11.25 > Ellis+Stralman at 10.5, not to mention adding the phenom Sandin). The only sacrifice is Kadri, although he did bring in an adequate replacement in Kerfoot.

It’s a shame how most of the energy will be about the Marner overpay, as Dubas has put on a masterclass performance the last year in getting the big four stars locked up, signing 3 complimentary pieces to good deals (Johnsson, Kapanen, Kerfoot) while building what appears to me as a great blue-line.

haven't been on this site for a while to respond.
imo dubas did a good job getting rid of marleau and the colorado trade looks good too. clearing zaitsev and his long term contract another win. didn't like those three rfa signings but they going to ok to live with long term. with emergence of mikheyvov and maybe korshov maybe a higher priced forward could traded for cap space to upgrade the defence. probably not till next summer.
i never understand why people think is in cap hell when they have the ability to trade a player for relief. tampa is more cap hell next season with their ntcs and vancouver will a bunch of overpriced players.
have you just made five posts in over two years?
