Leo Komarov has signed a new contract with the New York Islanders.

4 years for 31-year old Komarov? What? If this was like a 2-year deal at 4m, it would be too much money but for reasonable term. Now this is too much term and too much money.

As a Leaf fan and a huge Komarov supporter in the past I must say that this is a HORRIBLE deal to give him. I was surprised how badly he tailed off last year. He was kind of okay the previous season but even then didn't seem worth the $2.95 MIL he was being paid. Although he was a good team mate and agitator, his hands are made of stone. He missed MANY glorious opportunities last season.

Wow...is NYI ever going regret this contract for the next 4 years. At least he can join Clutterbuck and Cizikas as the $10 MIL 4th line for the next 3 years. OUCH!!

They have to pay Pulock and Nelson this offseason, Eberle and Lee next offseason, Barzal the year after, and then they still have to find a goalie. And this is how they're spending their money.

Lou once again overpaying a veteran. This signing reminds me of the Martin, Hainsey, Marleau, signings he did here in Toronto.

Not as bad of a signing as it looks ... still doesn't replace JT. Maybe too long or too much. Not a great signing.

Yell maybe on the Islanders' side, it is. On TO's side it's Tavares for JVR, Bozak, Komarov, Plekanec and Polak. They lose a lot on the depth front. Let's just hope for them that none of the big five get injured otherwise it could be tougher then anyone expects.

1. Eberle is coming to the Leafs (the rumor is that it was his childhood dream).

2. Barzal is going to hold out on his next extension & force a trade (he just had an 80 point season - that isn't going to happen again without Tavares taking on all the 1st line match ups....and you also signed a neutral zone trap coach that will reduce everyones point totals....star players HATE playing the trap....especially when they playing for a contract.

3. The good news is....Martin & Komarov spent all of last season competing with each other (only one could stay out of the press box at a time). These guys are fierce - well worth the $6,000,000 cap hit.

What????? Leafs have good depth on wing, the reason they did attempt to resign JVR and Komarov. Johnson, Kapanen and Grundstrom look ready for full time NHL spots. What are Isles thinking spending 11m on three LWers Ladd, Komarov and Martin. Gee Leafs five LWers Hyman, Marleau, Johnson, Grundstrom and Leivo make about 11.5m

- I don't think we could have paid Bozak $5,000,000 to play on our 4th line....
- I don't think we could have paid Komarov $3,000,000 to sit in the press box all playoffs....
- I don't think we could have paid Martin $2,500,000 to sit in the press box every game from December onward....
- I don't think we could have paid Polak $1,100,000 to watch Connor Carrick from the press box every game....

Tavares > Bozak (especially on defense)
Johnsson > JVR (especially on defense)
Kapanen > Komarov (especially on offense)
Lindholm > Plekanec (I think everyone is though)
Carrick > Polak (especially when they have to move)
