I know there is still plenty to like and a lot of upside and potential in Alex Nylander, but he is not his brother and did have a great year in the AHL. I'd rather the Leafs look elsewhere for centre depth and help on the blueline. Adding another Nylander does not really help our two problem areas, which I previously mentioned. Adding to our already-buckling wing depth would basically see Nylander, at least for the moment, blocked at the NHL.

Did you even look at the rest of the lineup? Also I added A Nylander for shits and giggles. I don't think TO really considers him, unless they don't get JT. Then maybe they send Gardiner + to buffalo for Nylander and put him on the 3rd line with Willy. That would be pretty cool.

My comment was specifically geared to Alex Nylander. Considering Hyman-Marleau-Johnsson-Martin-Leivo, we are plenty full on the left side at the moment, oh and then there is also Grundstrom. Maybe some of those players gets moved. I just don't see Leafs lining up well with Buffalo on anything. What I would love to see is Leafs to go after and acquire Rasmus Ristolainen, but that's more of a pipe dream than anything else.

Ristolainen is the worst defenceman for 5v5 defensively. He is like Gardiner but even worse defensively. There is no price I would pay to acquire him.

He doesn't always have the prettiest numbers, but I think in large part it's how he was used and coach in Buffalo. Playing in a better system, on a better team with a better coach, he might really flourish.

I'd rather them pick up a guy who can do other things, the Leafs do not need another PP QB. Reilly, Gardiner, Dermott, Zaitsev and even Carrack can get the job done. Why spend big assets on a guy who's biggest skill is one of the biggest areas of strength for TO. Get a guy like Tyler Myers or Chris Tanev and your top pairing is sick! Those guys cost way less and also improve the PK. The defence I have for this team would be so much better than last years.

Bogo makes the Leafs worse. AHLer Nylander well right now is an AHLer. I don't like having young brothers on the same team. William just might be so worried about his struggling brother, he forgets his own game

I doubt it, plus it would save Alex from being on Buffalo. LOL. Bogo is overpriced sure, but he's a solid NHLer. I think with the right partner he proves to be a lot better than people give him credit. He's a lot like Tanev but not quite as good a skater. Would be an improvement over Hainsey though on the right side.

I’m sure Tavares would be delighted to play on the third line

The top 3 lines would all have similar 5v5 usage and would give opposing coaches nightmares. Every single night one of the top 3 lines will get extended playing time against 3rd and maybe 4th liners and they'll utterly wreck them. It looks like he's the 3rd line but it would be more of a 1A/1B/1C scenario.

i would be more concerned with a team offering Willy an offer sheet forcing the Leafs to shell out more him, while still needing to sign Marner and Matthews.

Nylander will command upwards of $7M-$8M (expected) Matthews and Marner both need contracts next year. Plus the leafs could get JT. That 24.68M is going quick.

If i was a team looking to **** over the Leafs (ie sabres, since they have the budget to) offer Nylander a 10M AAV multi year deal (thinking 4 or 5), Leafs forced to match, thats 14M left try to sign JT, Matthews and Marner on 14M good luck.

Dailyfoaceoff has Bogo and Dahlin together right now, he should do better, depending on how Dahlin does

Two issues with your idea.

1) The Leafs are going to offer Nylander at least 6 years at 6+ (Elhers and Pastrnak are comparables), so if that's on the table his agent isn't even listening to offer sheets.
2) If the Leafs decide to lowball Nylander and offer him 2 years at 5.5 million or something, then he may look at offer sheets at which time, if Buffalo offers him 10 million, then TO happily accepts all of their picks.

Ok cool. You can still submit an offer sheet over paying him make the leafs lose him or Matthews/Marner it back out on JT

Any team can offer someone an offer sheet at anytime, you are correct. However, offering one is irrelevant unless the player the offer is directed at decides to sign said offer sheet. So tell me, why would Nylander, Marner or Matthews, leave what currently is being touted as the best team on paper? All 3 are getting massive offers from TO, that isn't in questions. So why would they take ridiculous money to join an inferior team. Its just not happening.

if you do what the flyers did to Weber you force the leafs to move one. Flyers offer weber a 14 year $110m deal, preds were forced to sign and over pay or let him walk. A team like the Ranger or Devils both with 23m in space can submit and offer sheet over paying for Nylander, if he wants money and accepts then LEafs are forced to lose him or struggle with signing matthews nylander and marner

I understand how this works.

What these crazy fans don't want to see is that the motivation for Nylander to sign an offer sheet is non existent. His GM has already said he won't trade him so they know they are working on a long term deal. He's going to get paid, he knows it and has left it to his agent to get him a good deal. Both sides want the same thing and if he wants to win, TO is the team to do it. They have all the momentum in the league and unless Dubas decides to low ball him, which he won't, this will be like any other RFA signing. It'll happen and it'll be a fair market price.
