Pretty fair value for Miller, but may necessitate a trade in the next year or two. Keep juggling, Stevie!

Eh, Coburn and Girardi come off the books next year and McDonah probably walks too, doubt they can afford him. If needed, Callahan's contract is movable and so is majority of their other contracts. Plus Carle's BO comes off the books after 19-20 which is almost another 2m.

TL;DR: They have unfair flexibility considering how good they already are.

So if they are in the running for Tavares and they have 5.3M in cap space. Wonder how they fit him in ?
If they trade Callahan and take no money back they would have 11M in cap space.
Seems really tight ? Unless due to no state tax they can get him for 9-10m
Isles have supposedly offered 11 x 8
Thoughts ?

I honestly think he stays an Islander. I don't think Bolts necessarily offer him something long term due to how tight this will be with their cap situation.
Islanders have tons of cap space and are offering term.
Time will only tell where he goes. Surely, the contract will be lucrative

The NHL needs to do something to take the tax advantages out of signings. Maybe take the top tax rate a player anywhere in the league may pay and take whatever the difference is from every player and put it into some sort of fund. Certain teams have an unfair advantage when it comes to these big name UFAs (not saying the MIller signing had anything to do with this but Stamkos' sure did and so may Tavares)

Folks really overrate the tax advantages. High end players and most players do not pay personnal tax rates on much of the income.....which is unfortunately what folks look. Certainly in Canada, a players place of residence counts considerably, not where his team in located. It's complicated.

That's just how it works. Should they adjust for property taxes? Sales taxes? Cost of living? The NHL shouldn't have to adjust their salary structure because of how certain laws are set up in different states/provinces.

It's actually a really easy fix, make the cap hit = after tax earnings, instead of before tax earnings.
Good value for Miller, I figured he would get closer to 5.5-6x6yrs.

Good large signing!! His value has sure raised, I only expected him to get something close to Bryan Rust, but after his playoff performance and late season play, his value has increased alot.

Miller has always had a better track record than Rust, so he should've easily made more.

rust over an overpayment, this wasn't exactly an underpayment but it was a team friendly deal. They are no where close together in terms of value.
