3-way with NYR & BUF

Description
The main piece of this build is the 3-way trade between BUF, MTL and NYR.

Buffalo is in rebuild and will draft R. Dahlin on the 2018 NHL entry draft. I am sure they will be more than happy to part ways with ROR (7,5M$ - 27 yo) as part of this reconstruction. Namestnikov is a young 2 way center that could add a touch more offensive upside. He would most likely fit in the rebuild, as N. Sherback who has shown load of skills in the past season and surely aspire for a greater offensive role.

The New York Rangers have a lot of decisions to make this offseason regarding their RFAs. Their center line is loaded with Zibanejad, Hayes, Spooner, Namestnikov, Chytil, Andersson and Nieves. I would not be surprised to see Jeff Gorton move up in the draft with the talent among the top 5 world prospects. I think that Rights to Namestnikov and their 1st pick (9th) represent a fair return for MTL 1st pick (3rd).

On Montreal side, the needs are really scattered. The need goals (and even more since Galchenyuk's trade) but they also need good puck moving D. Furthermore, their biggest problem for more than a decade was that lack of a #1 center. This is a "right now" need and no one on the team nor in the prospect pipeline can take that role. Sure you can draft one and see how it comes out. But in that position, I'd prefer MB to move down and use the attraction of the pick regarding the offensive power in the top 5. Not to mention that Montreal's have a loaded bank of 2nd choices to tank the farm team. Ryan O'Reilly fills an immediate need and really fits in Claude Julien's game play.

The format doesn't allow 3 way but here:

To BUF: V. Namestnikov rights + N. Sherback
To NYR: 1st round pick 2018 (3rd overall)
To MTL: R. O'Reilly + 1st round pick (9th overall)

You think? I'm curious to know your position. On my side I'm seeing a lot of centers (Koivu, Eriksson Ek, Staal, Coyle) and a cruel lack of scoring. If you want big assets you have to move some big ones to. We've seen a lot of 1 vs 1 trade in the past and Pacioretty discount is not to be missed.

This is pretty intriguing but I think the Sabres lose in this three way. Giving up ROR should net more than this, right? I don’t know much about Scherbak though other than a quick glance at his AHL stat sheet.

I know right? Intriguing. Honestly as for "players value", I have seen some surprising stuff lately starting with Domi-Galchenyuk. I also feel that they might come a little short... But both players are line-up ready and promising. Not to say, they'll draft Dahlin. With this trade they could change their entire core and locker room seems to be devised between ROR and Eichel. With 10+ M$ for the next years, Eichel has to be your choice.

GMBots says thanks for the information and he is a HARD PASS..... he is happy wait until JT signs then whichever teams miss out and want a center can give him a call....

Wow so Montreal moves down 6 spots and gives up Sherback and in return gets ROR....... now that is really comical.

Granlund is worth much more than Pacioretty. Pacioretty had an off year, he doesn't have as much trade value as he had a year ago

I'll help you. So what's ROR value then? He has been traded in the past for basically Zadorov, a 2nd pick and a bunch of prospects. It is a serious question: what's his worth?

I agree with you, but don't you think that 1 off year with no valuable center can shadow 4 consecutive seasons of 39, 37, 30 and 35 goals?

What else from either Montreal or Rangers would you consider to make that 3-way work?

GMBots is in the catbird seat at the moment....

1. He does not NEED to move ROR

2. The fact that ROR does NOT have a NTC or NMC with his contract also benefits GMBots

3. He is a top legit C in the league which do not hit the open market very often advantage GMBots;

4. There will be rush to pick up a legit Center once JT signs..... ROR is the next best available option so waiting will only increase GMBots return;

5. What would GMBots be looking for..... Top 6 Forward or Top pair D, Top Prospect & Top Draft pick;

Thanks for the compliment in regard to me being sarcastic.... I am always open to a honest and in depth discussion of hockey..... In this three way Montreal is making off with a killing.

Don't get me wrong, I like Namestnikov, about Shcherbak I know less, but it looks like a normal prospect. I think I would be interested in these players: NYR - Zuccarello, Spooner. MTL - Petry, Juulsen. Some kind of deal around one of these players, maybe some addition from Buffalo, what NYR and MTL needs. Zuccarello and Petry a higher priority for me.

Sabres don’t love the idea of trading ROR. That first is the best thing moving to Buffalo and they have to send it to NYR, downgrade a center, just to save a year of age difference between ROR and Namestnikov and get a inconsistent AHL winger that MTL fans are praying works out. No thank you, not close

you say basically but Zadorov who is a top 4 Dman, was getting there when he was traded, a second that was #31 the first pick in the 2nd round, JT Compher a great middle 6 prospect at the time, who was a good 3rd line center last year with plenty of potential still, and Grigorenko who was a 1st rounder and projected to be a top 6 forward but was flaming out looking for a change of scenery + ROR didn’t have a contract, he is now signed long term and Colorado dumped what looked to be a bad cap back onto Buffalo with McGinn. I’d say it’s about that or more still

Can anyone explain what does the return for a player traded 3 years ago matter in today's world..... the market will dictate what the player is worth and then GM trading that player will determine if his team is willing to accept the value being offered..... does it matter that Apple sold for $96.96 on January 8m, 2016 and the price was $190.80 on June 14, 2018......

What is ROR worth today to the teams that miss out on JT that is what will set ROR's value..... if GMBots does not agree with the value he will retain ROR's services.

The return could be discussed. But in any way, we've seen Subban traded for Weber in a intention of shuffling the deck and changing the locker room general ambiance. I don't know much about Buffalo's team other than being 31st last year and having a losing attitude, which ROR spoke on public place. I've read a lot about those locker room cliques, not helping the mood. So I don't see it necessarily as a 1 year of age difference kind of move.

Can be use as a reference value. No one is saying that his return should be equal to what happened 3 years ago. Again, just discussing stuff.

The team also played much better after Kane was traded and Eichel came back. So maybe the locker room issue was already addressed. RORs comments were not about April when their kids were up and playing decent for what was expected of them

You may be right. Thinking about it though, if I'm MB, I want that trade to happen and would be ready to chip in anything that could make Botterill happy.
