Certainly makes the trading or waiver claim of Pickard or Mcillerney a lot easier to take by the Leafs. Right now they have five competent goalies pro goalies. Besides Andersen and Mcillerney are any of the other three NHL good?

They have the two best AHL goalies in the past season, Sparks and Pickard. People keep saying Sparks was bad when he played in the NHL but that was because he was playing injured. He's most likely Freddy's backup next season.

As a Leaf and Marlie fan, hope you're right. It seems to Sparks job to lose. But you never know till he actually plays regularly for 22 games this season.

Do you think spark would be good as a backup and not playing as much to me he seems like the kind of guy who needs to play to be good

Sparkles has put up good numbers at every level (outside tank nation) and will be a valuable playet going foward. I think we will see pickard move on and mac and kask in the ahl. With sparkles given a sample behind a better nhl team, he was by far the better goalie last camp and I expect the same out of him.

Kaskisuo is a solid minor league goalie that gives the organization some depth and can be called up in a drastic situation. With Ian Scott and Joseph Woll being a couple of years away from being pro goaltenders, the Leafs need a couple of guys for the minor system. In my opinion, Sparks has the potential to be a serviceable backup in the NHL but nothing more and I don't believe he is a very valuable asset. I don't think his numbers on a very good AHL will automatically translate into being a regular NHL goalie. McElhinney was very good this year and he only has one year left on his contract. I think McElhinney will be the backup this year then make way for Sparks or someone from outside the organization.

He might be a bit like that. But then again, he's been so good down in the AHL, I could see him being trusted for 20-25 games or more.
