Philadelphia Flyers vs Washington Capitals

The Capitals slipped in to the playoffs as an 8-seed but they’ve been firing on all cylinders ever since and are no doubt a cup favorite at this point. They were the voting favorites going into their series versus the Flyers, who only managed a voting edge in the defensive and PK categories. Sometimes the bounces go your way, and other times they don’t. This matchup was one of the biggest upsets we’ve seen in the v3 playoffs in terms of voting expectation. The voting predicted that Washington would win about 60% of the games, but Philadelphia put their work boots on and the Flyers are moving on to play in the Stanley Cup Finals.

WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS:

St. Louis Blues vs Vancouver Canucks

Not to be out-done in the drama department, the WCF was an even bigger underdog story. Voters gave the Blues an edge in the total scoring, mostly due to a perceived advantage in net. But you have to play the games to find the winners (or in this case, simulate the games heh). The Blues won Game 1; and the Canucks responded. The Blues won Game 3; Canucks responded. In the best of 3 that remained, the Canucks were able to solve the Blues rookie goaltender and break through for a dramatic Game 7 victory. The #1 seed Blues will miss the Stanley Cup Finals for the 49th consecutive year. Yikes.
