I think they're worried that he's declining already, and want to get some value back before he turns into Bouwmeester.

At the same time, Eastern teams still remember Bouwmeester as being awesome. I bet you could get a decent player like Brooks Orpik for him, if you threw in a pick and a prospect to make up for how bad he actually is. Who knows. Maybe a change of scenery gets them each over ten points. But at least with Orpik you get some hits.

I don't think anyone WANTS to move him. But at least in my opinion, I think his value is at its highest right now and you could land a really good center in return if another team is looking to move one. Nylander is just one player that comes to mind on possible players to be moved but probably is not established enough as a center to make sense for STL.

Would highly doubt he is moved considering how much STL likes him and the value of player it would take in return.

Just wanted to pop in non-constructively and tell you that I probably disagree with 100% of what you say on this site. No one thinks Parayko is declining, he has 3 seasons of NHL duty and his role has increased each year. Bouwmeester started declining after some bad injuries at age 33...

Bouwmeester + pick + prospect for Orpik would make me vomit uncontrollably. Hits are a useless stat - check the hits stats for teams in the basement of the league: all the worst teams are at the top of the list... hmmm... teams that can't play with the puck have the most hits; players with the worst possession numbers have the most hits. Clearing the crease is nice and all, but breaking up possession on entry attempts and controlling the puck rather than chasing it all shift are probably what better teams do.

I post 80% stats and 90% jokes. Your disagreement is 170% invalid. And your vomit stinks, too.

The Caps won the Presidents' trophy the last two years, and won the league's toughest division the last three years. Orpik played 2nd pair in 16, 3rd pair in 17, and first pair most of this year. If I didn't know better, I'd have guessed he was there to keep Carlson from running away with the defensemen scoring race before his UFA payday. That went well...

Bouwmeester does have good puck possession/zone starts, but Orpik has a Stanley Cup ring, and scored 43% more points this year. It can be late pick and a bad prospect. cheers

Whoop-de-do the point machine Orpik scored 3 more pts in twice as many games than the great Jay Bouwmeester. Just keep posting stats like this buddy. I'm gaining an immunity to your tomfoolery happy.

For years we have kept on hearing how great the Blues (and Flames) defensemen are, but what has the team really done. Leafs GAA was 12th so it isn't a horrible group of Dmen. Not saying that isn't a fair or even logical trade, but no Blues Dman is a saviour, especially if it cost the Leafs Nylander. Leafs would be much better just to wait til 2019 and maybe see if a UFA is available instead of making a trade which costs them Nylander.

I heard a good comeback for this kind of thing somewhere. What was it?

    Oh, right:

Orpik played in 81 games this season and had 10pts. That’s about 0.12ppg.
    Bouwmeester played in 35 and had 7pts. That’s .2ppg
Now this may not be the full story since it’s not primary point only but if you want I can do that for ya later too..
Also Orpik had a -6.7% CF relative to his teammates where
Bouwmeester was at a -5.4% CF relative. So both awful but Orpik is worse in that department.

You say you post 80% stats but you didn’t do this simple ppg calculation. It’s easy to cherry pick stats out of context to support an argument. Confused

Oh, I know Jay Bo is more skilled with a puck than Orpik (that's why I'd trade for him in spite of his ridiculous cap hit), but the league still gave out standings points in the other 46 games, and the Caps won their division, over Columbus, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.

If that's not worth a pick and a prospect, I don't know what to tell you.

PPG is only relevant when the player could physically have played more, like with healthy scratches and guys on ELCs. I did say I post stats and jokes, but you combine them better than I can.

    But hey,

The Blues finished 6th best in the league only giving up 2.71 goals per game. I'm willing to bet that if Allen was the #1 goalie on most other teams in the league that rank would be much lower. That gives some credence to the Blues D. The issue with the Blues is lack of high end talent and depth scoring. A lot can change in 1 year. Look at Ottawa and Colorado this year. Army knows what the issues are on this team. Let's see what happens this off-season.

Well besides finishing 6th, 12th, 5th, 5th, 3rd in GA the past 5 years... Yeah I'm not sure why.
