The value is what makes this a good deal.

Even if he doesnt play and keeps the kids in check id still consider this fine. There isn't really any way to look at this as bad

It's a no-risk deal. Worst case scenario is that Gionta struggles and eats popcorn in the press box. It didn't cost us assets to get him, so good signing.

Low risk, low reward. They're not close to contract limit, so the only thing they're really losing is a roster spot and they have plenty of those. Probably won't even play unless massive logjam of injuries occurs.

I had guessed that after the olympics there would be a whole bunch of players getting signed into the NHL. I guessed right! As this is the 7th player signed.

He's going to make like 100K to finish the season and try to win a cup, it must be nice to have options like that in life.. 100k & Stanley Cup ring for few months of work..

NHL players aren't paid for the playoffs, but still that's a nice chunk of cash for getting bench view playoff seats and having to play 10 minutes a night.

Yea well it was a stupid idea to sit out almost the entire season just to fail at the Olympics...

The Olympics are so overrated.

I don't understand it.

But hey, I'm not saying they they should't play - they can do what they like - I just thought missing 3/4th's of a season to play is silly from my perspective..

I can also understand that under normal Olympic circumstances (with the NHL involvement) a lot of these guys that played would have never gotten the opportunity otherwise.

Ya, I think that Gionta never would get an NHL offer if he didn't play in the olympics. Like NHL scouts watched him at the olympics and liked what they saw, that is kinda my reasoning for why a team would sign Gionta.
