It does clear a contract spot, but MIN still got a guy who's cleared waivers multiple times in exchange for two players who still have the potential to crack somebody's bottom six. They should've shed a guy who's done growing, such as Zach Palmquist or Pat Cannone.
y'all overanalyze these things way too much. it's a trade of players playing in the AHL (that happen to be on NHL contracts), and also the Wild drop back to 49 contracts, which helps for the upcoming trade deadline. really all there is to it.

It shouldn't have been these guys, though. Loov is still stuck on the depth chart behind potential call-ups in Ryan Murphy and Carson Soucy, so he shouldn't see NHL ice for the Wild. I'd put money on both Bertschy and Lucia playing on NJ's 4th line next season.

mmmm, I'd pump the brakes on that last statement. the Devils already have a number of players they'd probably eye for the 4th line over Bertschy and Lucia: Stefan Noesen, Miles Wood, Blake Coleman, Blake Pietila, Nick Lappin, and maybe Kevin Rooney. I would guess management gives them the first crack at the 4th line.
Have a soft spot for Loov. Unfortunately he seemed to just a good in his first two years in the AHL as he is now. When he was at his best, he was like Danny Markov. Unfortunately there were few of those games.
